Reflections on the Film: Two Standout Moments
After watching the film, two main aspects lingered in my mind, prompting some reflection.
The Protagonist’s Transformation
The first highlight is undoubtedly the male lead’s transformation. Initially, he’s a character devoid of understanding right and wrong, ethics, or a sense of shame. However, under Billy’s influence, he undergoes a gradual and fascinating change.
At the beginning, the protagonist is confined to a prison from a young age. Due to brain damage, he’s offered an opportunity to participate in an experiment. In moments of mental confusion, he acts like a mischievous child, driven by his impulses, freely insulting passersby, yet still possessing a naive affection for beautiful things.
But as time progresses, within a mere 48 hours, he begins to understand. He absorbs Billy’s memories and comprehends the true meaning of love – its preciousness, especially because he has never experienced it before. The innocence of a child, the dependence of a wife – these are things of profound beauty.
This entire process left me in deep thought. Should our society show more tolerance towards individuals with mental disabilities, like the protagonist? Should there be better guidance available? Even those with mental illness have the right to experience love.
The Government’s Perspective
The second noteworthy aspect is the attitude of the government towards the public. We all know that the primary concern of a nation’s leader is the stability of the country. But when faced with a choice between safeguarding national intelligence and protecting the life of an innocent person, I confess I lack the decisiveness of those in power. I cannot easily weigh which is more important.
It’s worth mentioning that the acting, both by the head of state and the doctor, is commendable, even though they are supporting roles. The female leads in the film are also visually appealing. For those who are tired of domestic dramas, this film is worth checking out. I would recommend it. Finally, I must say that Billy is significantly more handsome than the male lead, haha.
Areas for Improvement
Let’s address some shortcomings of the film:
- The protagonist’s backstory is too limited, making it difficult to fully develop his character. However, perhaps the focus was primarily on showcasing Billy?
- I didn’t particularly enjoy some of the violent scenes, although most were acceptable.
- Forgive me for predicting the ending, even the method of destroying the vulnerability. Therefore, there was little surprise, and the ending lacked suspense.
- I don’t believe the government leader should have placed their hopes on a mentally ill person. The emphasis was too skewed.
Potential Enhancements
Here are some areas where I think the film could have been improved:
- I would add an adversary for the head of state, which would make the story much more compelling.
- The villainous female character shouldn’t have been killed by a cactus. Replacing that with a love-hate relationship between the villains would have created a great subplot.
- The ultimate boss didn’t seem particularly formidable and lacked capable subordinates, except for the villainous female lead. Creating a game within a game could have been fantastic. Imagine if, when you thought you were using a woman who deeply loved you to obtain the so-called vulnerability, it was actually a cleverly disguised escape.
