Six Apocalyptic Movies You Might Have Missed!
Looking for some thrilling end-of-the-world entertainment? Here are six movies that offer unique takes on the apocalypse, ranging from monster-filled adventures to zombie outbreaks and societal collapses.
1. Love and Monsters
This one has a young adult adaptation vibe, so don’t overthink the world-building. Just go with the flow and enjoy it as a fun, lighthearted adventure. The dog is absolutely adorable! My only gripe? The main character gets to the base and completely forgets about the dog, which is a shame considering the dog ends up saving him later.
2. Mayhem
A cathartic and over-the-top action flick perfect for blowing off steam. The leads are incredibly charismatic, and watching them fight their way through corporate hell is surprisingly engaging. The plot is simple: a fired employee fights his way from the bottom floor to the top to get his job back. It’s a fun ride, ideal for a break from studying or work.
3. Daybreakers
This movie has surprisingly relevant themes. When the existing order can no longer provide for the masses and the gap between rich and poor widens, people will inevitably seek change. Sacrifice is necessary for societal evolution, and the only thing you can do is keep pushing for progress. A single spark can start a fire.
4. Planet Terror
With its dark and gritty atmosphere and non-stop action, Planet Terror is one of the most entertaining cult films I’ve seen. The plot is pure exploitation, but the action is relentless and incredibly satisfying. If you’re a fan of over-the-top gore and action, this is a must-watch.
5. World War Z
A classic American hero story, complete with a protagonist who can seemingly guarantee his family’s safety even in the apocalypse. The zombies are faster and more aggressive than in other films, making them feel more like contagious monsters. Ironically, the vulnerable, the sick, and the unhealthy are the ones who are most likely to survive in this world.
6. Bird Box
The atmosphere is well-crafted, but the script has some major issues. It makes sense that blind people can survive, but why are the mentally ill immune? What’s the logic? They have incredible strength, can open their eyes, and have no humanity, while the normal humans have no advantages and are completely outmatched.
