Get Your Thrills: Top Horror Movies from 2016 for a Midnight Fright Fest
Hey everyone, it’s your horror aficionado here! Word on the street is that horror movies hit different after midnight, so I’ve compiled a list of some highly-rated horror flicks from 2016 to keep you on your toes tonight.
My friend is out partying, leaving me to watch these alone, huddled under the covers.
So, let’s kick off our thrilling midnight movie marathon!
Must-Watch Horror Movies
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Synopsis: Set in Enfield, North London, this film delves into the supernatural events that plagued a family in the late 1970s.
Review: I talked about this yesterday, but watching it at midnight takes it to a whole new level. The plot, soundtrack, jump scares – everything is top-notch. Just when you think the scares are over, it hits you with something even more intense!
Don’t Breathe (2016)
Synopsis: A group of young burglars breaks into the home of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ve found an easy target. They couldn’t be more wrong.
Review: There aren’t any supernatural entities, but the suspense is killer. The silence is so menacing. The pacing is perfect, making you feel like you’re right there with them. It’s a non-stop thrill ride. Watch out tonight; someone might be looking for you. Remember to hold your breath.
Keeper of Darkness (2015)
Synopsis: A demon hunter with the ability to see spirits helps wandering ghosts. He has been accompanied by a female ghost since childhood. When he finds a demon hurting people, he tries to solve the mystery of the demon hurting people, thus putting himself and the people around him in great danger.
Review: It’s rare to see Hong Kong films like this these days, especially horror films. This film by Nick Cheung is better than the previous one. The plot is more inclined to be a love story between humans and ghosts. It’s still scary, and I was so scared when I watched it alone.
Lights Out (2016)
Synopsis: When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was real when the lights went out. Now, her little brother is experiencing the same unexplained events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety.
Review: During the hot summer, the midnight horror movies in the cinema became my way to cool down, which shows how scary it is. The lights are turned on and off, and the ghosts flash on and off! The sound effects are particularly scary.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Synopsis: After a fight with her fiancé, a woman is driving on the highway at night when she gets into a car accident and wakes up in an underground cellar. Her captor tells her that a nuclear attack has devastated the outside world, and that he is saving her life. Is he telling the truth?
Review: I thought it was a sequel to “Cloverfield,” but it turned out to be completely unrelated. The screenwriter is the winner! Twist after twist after twist. It always keeps the audience in a state of doubt. A pervert can finally become who he wants to be in a doomsday environment. Control freaks also seem to reflect some parents, everything is for our own good, but they don’t care what others think, as long as others are grateful to them.
The Wailing (2016)
Synopsis: In a remote mountain village in Korea, a series of mysterious and gruesome murders occur, leading a police officer to investigate and uncover a supernatural presence.
Review: I watched this alone while it was raining and thundering outside. Where’s my friend? After watching the movie, I further studied the interpretation of this movie, and when I think about it again, I can’t help but feel chills down my spine! A great work with full of details throughout, and it manipulates the audience in the palm of its hand. The key is that the audience enjoys watching this “manipulation” process, which is thrilling.
Elle (2016)
Synopsis: A successful businesswoman is attacked in her home and decides to track down her assailant, leading her into a dangerous game.
Review: The director’s hatred of men and homophobia broke out! It was about to loosen in the middle, but it reversed again. This year’s Cannes cinema audience has the highest degree of cooperation, laughing where it should be laughed and applauding where it should be applauded.
Before I Wake (2016)
Synopsis: A couple adopts an orphaned child whose dreams—and nightmares—manifest physically.
Review: A very touching horror movie. The boy’s superpowers and kindness, nightmares all have sources. Thanks to the later mother, she found the source and contained him. The ending is open.
Final Thoughts
That’s all for tonight! Enjoy the movies, everyone. I wanted to include “Train to Busan,” but the resources are hard to find, so I didn’t include it. I think midnight goes better with “The Conjuring 2” and these.
Bye everyone.
