Crayon Shin-chan Movie 22: Showdown! Robot Dad Strikes Back - A Review
Crayon Shin-chan Movie 22, “Showdown! Robot Dad Strikes Back,” released in 2014, offers a heartwarming and action-packed story spanning approximately 1 hour, 34 minutes, and 54 seconds.
I watched it on Youku, but the copyright situation can be quite confusing, with content appearing and disappearing. It’s best to catch it while you can, as these things often change.
It seems that iQIYI might not have the Mandarin dub available. However, with a bit of searching, you might find it elsewhere, as copyright availability tends to fluctuate.
Unfortunately, there are some cuts in the version I watched. Thankfully, I had seen an uncut version before, although it was a bit incomplete.
The Story Unfolds
The story begins with Hiroshi Nohara taking Shin-chan to see a Gundam robot. While playing a combining game afterward, Hiroshi injures his back.
With numerous unfinished tasks and the clinic closed, he seeks rest in a park filled with gloomy middle-aged men.
It’s here that Hiroshi is targeted by the Golden Tooth robot, and his memories are copied into a robot, marking the rise of a paternal machine.
The Villain’s Motives
Eventually, it’s revealed that the Golden Tooth robot is part of a plan controlled by the Director.
The Director, surrounded by strong female figures, lacks any real authority.
This leads to a morbid, extreme personality.
He seeks to rebel, but Robot Hiroshi stands in his way, leading to a confrontation with the Nohara family.
No matter how many times I watch it, the line, “I don’t really seem to be your dad,” always gets to me.
A Robot with a Heart
The robot possesses all of Hiroshi’s memories, including his love for his family, his sense of responsibility, and his commitment.
He fully integrates himself into the family, becoming more than just a machine.
That’s why, when he sadly shakes his head, unable to repair himself for Shin-chan, it’s so poignant. It signifies his inability to protect them any longer.
He and Hiroshi Nohara are the same person, just loving them in different ways.
