The Global Phenomenon: “The Wandering Earth 2”

Following its release, “The Wandering Earth 2” has ignited a global sensation. The film has not only sparked fervent discussions within China but has also achieved remarkable success in the United States, effortlessly claiming the top spot in the global weekend box office. Its performance far surpassed that of “Extraterrestrial” and “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” which ranked second and third, respectively. Both audiences and critics have lauded the film with exceptional praise. Some American critics even suggest that “The Wandering Earth 2” could potentially surpass the achievements of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

Critical Acclaim from International Reviewers

The Inevitable Backlash and Underlying Motives

While widespread acclaim is the norm, dissenting voices are to be expected. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, deliberately malicious criticism driven by ulterior motives is simply distasteful. Some individuals, unfortunately, seem unable to stand upright after kneeling for too long.

Why the Criticism?

The negativity directed towards “The Wandering Earth 2” stems from a place of unease and resentment towards China’s growing prominence. Certain entities are keen to suppress China’s progress across various domains. Fueled by vested interests, they readily engage in acts of subservience to their benefactors. This also represents an attack on China’s ideology, an attempt to impede the global dissemination of Chinese culture and values by undermining confidence in national culture through the denigration of our cinematic works.

A Clash of Ideologies

In my view, the narrative of “The Wandering Earth” embodies the concept of a shared future for humanity, standing in stark contrast to the Western-promoted “New World Order.” On one side, we have openness, inclusiveness, and mutually beneficial cooperation; on the other, hegemony and self-interest. The choice is clear. Remember, the more China is vilified, the better it signifies our nation’s progress. A strong China requires the collective efforts of us all. Let us strive together.
