“Kindergarten Cop 2” is Coming: Dolph Lundgren Takes Over as Undercover Agent
The 1990 film Kindergarten Cop, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, showcased the action star’s comedic and tender sides. Now, 25 years later, a sequel is in the works, though with a new lead and director. Dolph Lundgren, known for his roles in The Expendables franchise, is stepping into Schwarzenegger’s shoes to play an officer going undercover in a kindergarten. The film is directed by Don Michael Paul (Half Past Dead).
Familiar Plot, New Face
The screenplay for Kindergarten Cop 2 is penned by David H. Steinberg, who also wrote American Pie 2. From the synopsis revealed so far, the film’s main plot closely mirrors that of the original. Lundgren plays a tough detective who, along with his Indian partner, is tracking down a flash drive containing sensitive information related to the Federal Witness Protection Program. The trail leads them to a kindergarten, where the flash drive is suspected to be hidden. To retrieve the drive, Lundgren goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher, hoping to charm the teachers and catch the bad guys along the way.
Production and Release
Filming is currently underway in Vancouver, and set photos have already surfaced. The film is slated for release next year, but Kindergarten Cop 2 is likely to bypass theaters and be released directly through home video on demand.
