After two months of filming in Greece, the highly anticipated third installment of the beloved romantic comedy “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” has officially wrapped! Nia Vardalos, the film’s writer, director, and star, shared celebratory photos from the set on her social media, marking the end of production.
A Greek Celebration
The photos capture the cast and crew celebrating together. Vardalos expressed her emotions in the caption, saying, “I wrote the script alone, met with hundreds of people. While directing, I remained calm, but inside, I was crying my eyes out.”
Familiar Faces Return
Most of the original cast members are set to reprise their roles. Lainie Kazan will return as Toula’s mother, Maria, while Louis Mandylor will play her brother, Nick. Gia Carides will also be back as cousin Nikki.
A Cultural Phenomenon
The original “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” was released in 2002, followed by a sequel in 2016. The films tell the story of a Greek-American woman who overcomes numerous obstacles to marry her non-Greek love interest. In addition to exploring cultural differences, the film subtly touches on themes of ethnic reconciliation. To integrate into the Greek family, the boyfriend makes various concessions, including learning Greek culture and striving to be “more Greek” than the Greeks themselves.
Release Date Anticipation
Currently, there is no specific release date scheduled for the film, but fans around the world eagerly await its arrival.
