“The One and Only Ivan” is based on the Newbery Medal-winning novel by Katherine Applegate, inspired by a true story. The film will be directed by Thea Sharrock, with Allison Shearmur, known for her work on “Cinderella” and “Rogue One,” joining Jolie as a producer.
The story centers around Ivan, a silverback gorilla living with Stella, an elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. Initially, Ivan has forgotten his past. However, as he cares for a baby elephant, memories begin to resurface, leading him to devise a plan to escape their exploitative owner with the young elephant.
Jolie is no stranger to voice acting, having previously voiced Tigress in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise and Lola in “Shark Tale.”
