Review of the film "Old" New Year

Still from the movie

One might call this film a spiritual sequel to “Valentine’s Day,” if only there were more spirit in both. Another star-studded cast celebrates a secular holiday, and once again, relationships form, improve, and are tested over the course of a single day. However, for every moment of genuine human connection, there are ten scenes so obviously contrived and aggressively superficial that the film often feels like a parody of the worst romantic comedies.

Performances and Plot

Some actors deliver commendable performances (Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer), but they are hampered by stunningly dull storylines. The attempt to create a romantic mystery with a grand finale ends in an equally grand failure. Both the actors and the audience deserve better.
