Bruce Willis to Star in ‘Death Wish’ Remake

After a decade of planning, the remake of the iconic action film Death Wish is finally moving forward. Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the directors of Big Bad Wolves, are set to co-direct the film. Action star Bruce Willis will take on the lead role of Paul Kersey. Both directors and Willis are reportedly thrilled to be involved in the remake of this classic action thriller.

A Long Road to Remake

In 2012, Joe Carnahan, the director of The Grey, expressed interest in remaking the 1970s action classic Death Wish and dedicated himself to polishing the script. However, due to creative differences with the production company, Carnahan eventually left the project. Reports indicated that Carnahan initially wanted Russell Crowe for the lead role, and prior to that, Liam Neeson was his preferred choice.

The Original ‘Death Wish’

The original Death Wish, directed by Michael Winner, was adapted from the novel of the same name by Brian Garfield. It tells a story of vigilante justice. Charles Bronson played a mild-mannered businessman whose life is shattered when his wife and daughter are attacked. His wife dies as a result of the assault, leading him to seek revenge. He begins to hunt down violent criminals in the dark streets of New York City. The police are puzzled by this mysterious urban hero, questioning whether such extreme measures are truly effective in combating crime. In 2006, Sylvester Stallone announced his intention to remake the film, but the project ultimately fell through.

What to Expect from the Remake

Death Wish features a plot reminiscent of B-movies and shares similarities with modern superhero films. It remains to be seen how Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado will adapt the film for a contemporary audience.
