A Thought-Provoking Thriller: A Review
P.S. Before diving in, I wanted to clarify that this is my personal platform. So, no “editor” here – just me sharing my thoughts! I’ve noticed that the intro is often overlooked, so I’m trying it at the beginning this time.
Now, let’s talk about the film!
The Premise
The movie revolves around a group of individuals in a high-stakes final interview, set within the confines of a locked room. It’s not a tale of heroes, but rather a depiction of self-interest, where everyone is calculating their next move. From the moment the examiner lays down the rules – no communication with the staff, complete the test within the time limit to leave – you know it’s a trap for the candidates.
As expected, when the candidates realize there’s no visible question paper and the answers remain elusive, they resort to desperate measures. The initial cooperation to find the question gradually devolves into a cutthroat competition where eliminating others becomes the only path to victory. The film masterfully portrays the fragile and greedy aspects of human nature. Honestly, I’m not sure what makes this pharmaceutical company so desirable, but given the twisted nature of the interview, I’d rather pass.
A Race Against Time and Morality
The film wastes no time in turning candidates into cannon fodder. Whether it’s the Asian woman eliminated for defacing her paper with random answers or the blonde woman whose paper is swapped, the pace of elimination is relentless. Despite being 101 minutes long, the film feels like a blur of the ticking clock and glimpses into the characters’ dark sides. It’s a captivating watch that makes you lose track of time, focusing solely on the unfolding drama. That’s why I wanted to share it with you all.
Character Dynamics and Twists
The character dynamics are well-crafted. Just when the power struggle between the cunning guy and the black man escalates into a potential bloodbath with the guard’s gun, the story takes an unexpected turn. The black man’s miraculous recovery at the end makes you question the company’s true nature. Seriously, who knows what you’d be getting into?
Ultimately, the blonde woman secures the job. The bespectacled old man, the mastermind behind the whole ordeal, remains largely unnoticeable until his reveal as the ultimate puppet master. This is a bit of a flaw, as his importance isn’t effectively conveyed throughout the film. Although, he does deliver the final blow to the white guy by manipulating the clock, crushing his hopes of victory.
The Winner Takes All?
Oh, right, the winner? It’s the blonde woman.
Curious to know why? You should definitely check out this intriguing film. While it’s labeled as a thriller, I’d argue it leans more towards the social commentary genre.
