The absurd and hilarious comedy series *The Naked Gun* is getting a reboot, with Liam Neeson taking the lead in a “loli-to-uncle” transformation.

The action comedy film *The Naked Gun: Facing the Madness* (tentative title), produced by Paramount Pictures, has released its first trailer and poster. As a classic slapstick comedy, *The Naked Gun* was a huge hit in the 1980s. Now, the franchise is getting a fresh reboot, starring Hollywood heavyweight Liam Neeson, continuing the series’ signature hilarious style.

The quirky silver-haired detective makes a high-energy return—*The Naked Gun: Facing the Madness* (tentative title) is set to hit theaters in 2025. Stay tuned!

The film released its first trailer today, giving audiences their first look at the new *Naked Gun* detective. His absurd and exaggerated appearance is both hilarious and bewildering, while the outrageous plot promises laugh-out-loud moments.

A SWAT team gathers to respond to a tense bank robbery. The robbers, holding hostages inside, force the police into a standoff. Just then, a little girl in a school uniform walks straight into the bank, completely ignoring the officers’ attempts to stop her. The robbers, confused by the girl’s innocent appearance, lower their guard. One of them approaches to ask her what she’s doing there.

To everyone's shock, the girl rips off her mask, revealing herself to be a silver-haired middle-aged man. The lollipop in his hand transforms into a spiked weapon. Taking advantage of the robbers’ confusion, the white-haired man strikes with ferocity, swiftly taking them all down.

With a dramatic pose, the eccentric man introduces himself: “I’m Frank Drebin, from the Special Detective Squad,” making sure to emphasize that he's the “new version.” His thick muscular legs paired with knee-high socks and a schoolgirl skirt, along with his grizzled face in contrast to the youthful outfit, create a comically bizarre image.

As a reboot of a classic IP from the last century, the trailer ends with a nod to modern technology: a fully self-driving police car. However, it quickly spirals out of control, wreaking havoc at the police station. The once-promising AI becomes a total disaster, leaving everyone stunned and laughing at the chaotic results.

Released alongside the first trailer, the film’s first official poster features Liam Neeson as the new Frank Drebin striking a hilariously exaggerated split pose. This offbeat detective is set to protect the city in his own bizarre and unconventional way.

*The Naked Gun* originated in the 1980s, first gaining popularity as a television series. When the film version, produced by Paramount Pictures, debuted in 1988, it was met with widespread acclaim and became a hallmark of slapstick comedy. The franchise became known for its absurd props, pun-filled dialogue, and the iconic portrayal of the silver-haired detective by Leslie Nielsen—all of which became signature elements of the series.

Now, the franchise is getting a reboot, with acclaimed American actor Liam Neeson stepping into the lead role. Known for his Oscar-nominated performance in *Schindler’s List* and his action-packed roles in the *Taken* and *Non-Stop* series, Neeson brings a surprising comedic twist to his usual tough-guy persona. In this new *Naked Gun*, he turns the classic lone-hero archetype on its head, delivering a detective who’s absurd, unfiltered, and full of slapstick chaos.

As seen in the trailer—where the detective comically transforms from a little girl into a grizzled middle-aged man—Neeson’s stark contrast between appearance and behavior is laugh-out-loud funny. Audiences can look forward to a wild, comedic journey to save the world, full of irreverent humor and unexpected twists.

*The Naked Gun: Facing the Madness* is produced by Paramount Pictures and directed by Akiva Schaffer. The film stars Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston, and is tentatively set to be released in North America on August 1, 2025.
