Nancy Drew Gets Another Shot at a TV Series
The iconic Nancy Drew is heading back to television, this time on NBC. This marks another attempt to bring the beloved literary character to the small screen after CBS’s previous effort, Drew, starring Sarah Shahi, didn’t make it past the pilot stage. NBC announced the development of their Nancy Drew series on October 17th.
A Legacy of Mystery
The Nancy Drew character first appeared in novels in 1930, created by Edward Stratemeyer. Over the years, numerous ghostwriters have contributed to the series, all published under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene. Before Sarah Shahi, Emma Roberts portrayed Nancy Drew in the 2007 film adaptation.
A Fresh Take on a Classic
This new Nancy Drew series on NBC takes a different approach compared to the CBS pilot. Written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, the NBC version centers on the author of the Nancy Drew novels who becomes embroiled in a real-life mystery. She enlists the help of two childhood friends, who served as the original inspiration for her iconic character, to solve the case. This meta-narrative promises a unique and engaging twist on the classic detective series.
