In 1879 Texas, aging cowboy Jack Cates is well past his prime. Once a respected cattle driver, Jack has grown complacent and is struggling to keep up with the changing times. The ranch he owns, which has been in his family for generations, is in disarray, and he has reluctantly placed it in the hands of a young, ambitious ranch hand named Brad. However, on the day Jack has resolved to leave his life in the American West behind, a group of ruthless outlaws known as the McCoy gang kidnap his 12-year-old grandson, Spencer. Led by the sadistically cruel and cunning Augustus "The Kid" McCoy, the gang demands a ransom of $250,000 in exchange for the safe return of the boy. The ransom is an enormous sum, and it quickly becomes apparent that Jack will have to spring into action in order to retrieve his grandson. As Jack sets out on his perilous journey, he finds himself traveling alongside the Kid, the gang's cunning and agile leader. Unbeknownst to Jack, the Kid is hiding something - a personal vendetta against a wealthy businessman who had betrayed him in the past.
