Handlung
Das Kartell ist ein US-amerikanischer Action-Thriller aus dem Jahr 1994 unter der Regie von Phillip Noyce mit Harrison Ford als Jack Ryan. Der Film basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Tom Clancy. Der Film setzt dort an, wo die vorherige Folge, Patriot Games, aufgehört hat. CIA-Analyst Jack Ryan wurde gerade zum stellvertretenden Direktor des Geheimdienstes befördert und kämpft darum, sein Berufsleben mit seinem Privatleben in Einklang zu bringen. Seine Frau Cathy hat mit gesundheitlichen Problemen zu kämpfen, und ihre Tochter Sally versucht, sich an den neuen Status ihrer Eltern anzupassen. Ryans Probleme werden noch dadurch verstärkt, dass er in einen illegalen Krieg verwickelt wird, den die US-Regierung gegen ein kolumbianisches Drogenkartell führt. Die CIA unterstützt heimlich eine Rebellengruppe in Kolumbien, bekannt als Escambray-Bataillon, in ihrem Kampf gegen das Medellín-Kartell. Die Dinge nehmen jedoch eine Wendung zum Schlechteren, als die Rebellen verraten und vom Kartell massakriert werden. Ryans Chef, James Greer, informiert ihn darüber, dass die US-Regierung bereit ist, die kolumbianische Armee in ihrem Krieg gegen das Kartell zu unterstützen, aber nur, wenn dies still und ohne Aufsicht des Kongresses geschehen kann. The Jack Ryan trilogy is arguably one of the most inconsistent trilogies ever made. "The Hunt for Red October" came out in 1990, followed by "Patriot Games" in 1992, and "Clear and Present Danger" in 1994. The latter two starred Harrison Ford, while Alec Baldwin played Ryan in the first. Moreover, the real central figure in "The Hunt for Red October" wasn't even Ryan, but rather Sean Connery's character.

In a final act of integrity, Ryan exposes the President's involvement. Harrison Ford's performance is simply outstanding!

It gradually becomes exciting from the intense Colombian ambush in the middle part, with political confrontations, shady deals, and the gradual exposure of the true villain. The ending rescue mission brings it to a climax. Compared to "Patriot Games," this one is much more exciting and action-packed.
