La Mexicana
Trama
En la comedia de 2001 "La Mexicana", Jerry Welbach (interpretado por Brad Pitt) es un desafortunado cobrador que se encuentra en una situación precaria. Por un lado, su jefe de la mafia, Bernie Bernbaum (interpretado por Robert Wisdom), le ha dado un ultimátum: viajar a México y recuperar una valiosa pistola antigua conocida como "la Mexicana". Si no lo hace, Jerry sufrirá graves consecuencias. Por otro lado, Jerry también tiene que lidiar con las exigencias de su prometida, Samantha (interpretada por Julia Roberts), que quiere que la lleve a una escapada romántica. El viaje de Jerry a México se convierte en una serie de desventuras mientras navega a través de una serie de personajes y situaciones estrafalarias. Al llegar a México, Jerry se encuentra con una bella pero enérgica mujer mexicana llamada Margarita (interpretada por Angelina Jolie). Margarita es la hermana de un gángster local que exige que Jerry le devuelva la billetera robada de su hermano a cambio de información sobre la pistola. It takes something simple and makes it interesting – not bad. A couple of years ago, I probably wouldn't have been able to get through it. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a good movie. Although many criticized it back then for being boring and pretentious, I think those people just aren't fun. I love that legend. And the actors are all great, especially that wild dog with the football in its mouth.

An American barged into the Mexican's house, gun in hand, and menacingly declared: "I no fuck around. Comprende? Gun. Gun. Loaded. Bang, bang. You, dead." The Mexican replied: "Do you have a speech impediment?"

The synopsis was quite appealing, but the actual movie was incredibly dull for the majority of it. The ending managed to salvage it a little. It seems like the "Mexican" pistol was just a contraption made by a poor guy – he created a mechanism with a ring stuck inside, designed so the first two shots would be blanks, the third would fire, and the fourth would fire and release the ring?

If I hadn't had the time, if I hadn't been stuck inside because of the rain, if the couch wasn't so comfortable, and if I hadn't discovered how great my DVDs look on the TV, I wouldn't have watched this movie. Over two hours for such a simple story. It's basically just a romance. The plot is pretty uninteresting. The movie also throws in some preachy stuff about attitudes towards love, but it didn't resonate with me. Felt like a bit of a waste of time. The actors were the highlight. Pitt really nails the sleazy, low-level hustler, making you just want to hate him.
