The abuse aims to erase their very sense of self, turning them into prisoners of belief, left with no choice but to accept what they're told, ultimately leading to a state of trance and emptiness. Conversely, it reveals the perpetrators' own doubts about their faith, leading them to this shameless, absurd scheme to validate their beliefs. The result, of course, is utter futility...
