Shark: The Beginning

Trama
In the gritty juvenile detention center, Kai, a teenager with a troubled past, struggles to come to terms with the events that led to his incarceration. After a tragic accident on his school's diving team, Kai's life took a drastic turn, marking the beginning of his tumultuous relationship with authority and society at large. At this bleak establishment, he finds himself among fellow outcasts and convicted delinquents, an extension of the broken system that wronged him. However, amidst the despair, Kai discovers an unexpected source of hope - a mysterious new inmate who has earned his keep within the prison's walls. Known for his fearlessness and unwavering resilience, Ricky, a mixed martial arts champion, carries an aura that exudes power and humility. A seasoned fighter who has spent years honing his craft in the darkest corners of the world, Ricky is here for a crime committed in the line of duty, trying to protect others, but falls short of justice. Those who have seen him fight describe Ricky as a juggernaut. This brooding enigma is initially resistant to forming connections with his fellow inmates, particularly Kai, a scrawny and impressionable teenager he barely acknowledges. Yet, during a particularly grueling bout of humiliation, Ricky observes Kai enduring a brutal beating from his tormentors, a bully clique that has sensed his vulnerability. The injustice ignites a hidden flame within Kai, and it serves as a catalyst for Ricky to empathize with his struggling cellmate. As Ricky starts to divulge stories from his haunted past, a convergence of shared experiences and common struggles create a delicate bond between the troubled teenager and the grizzled fighter. Together, they form an unlikely alliance, united by their shared disdain for the broken system and their own innate resilience. Under Ricky's guidance, Kai embarks on a journey of self-discovery and growth. As they spend more time together, the champion trains Kai in the discipline of martial arts, instilling within him a unique blend of mental toughness and courage to fight. This tutelage serves as a much-needed refuge for Kai, channeling the emotional and psychological pain he has endured back into empowering self-belief. Through intense physical and mental trials, Ricky's teachings unlock Kai's full potential. The previously timid teenager transforms into a capable and purposeful individual, as he begins to adopt Ricky's mantra: "If you never fight, you will never stand a chance." Throughout his transformation, Kai proves that even in the darkest depths of adversity, any individual with sheer willpower and the right guidance can confront and shatter the chains that bind them. Kai's dedication to the intense training regimen comes at a personal cost, culminating in clashes with his former nemesis, the school bully and a fellow inmate who has long bullied Kai. He learns to channel his malaise into action, teaching him valuable lessons on emotional regulation, interdependence, and coming out from the shadows to take a stand. In his personal growth, Kai also learns that Ricky's not just a fighting champion but a troubled soul with deep pain. His experiences of losing an ally in the fight due to circumstances that forces Ricky out of the shadows of the place builds a deep symbiosis with his students that he gives his powers over to, but even when his hard work as a fighter saves another struggling teenager as he holds bonds of pain over the heart of his fighter background all through. Once their unbreakable bond matures, Ricky takes pride in witnessing Kai turn the tables and confound his tormentors by embracing their fears and turning the tables in a symbolic victory, channeling his aggression into an impervious armor. No longer a timid onlooker, the teenage once struggling with his own demons now proudly stands shoulder to shoulder with the formidable Ricky, his bond with them transcending the walls of their troubled past. This battle-hardened encounter becomes a metaphor for their entire lives - the seemingly disparate worlds of their youth colliding in a coming of age. For both, redemption, strengthened understanding, and acceptance now propel their unique bond forward - two kindred spirits formed by a tumultuous world - against an unjust system – even amid hardships together against their inevitable and unbreakable links to take the fight that defined them an unforgettable experience and story for an entire era of suffering souls united forever by their pain and struggle to overcome the broken world with solidarity – one warrior now watches over the other who's ready and able enough to take on challenges as 'Shark's The Beginning,' proudly testifies in conclusion.

Sharks have to keep swimming to survive, and this movie turns out to be a coming-of-age励志片+国民教育片 disguised as a crime action film – a wimpy legend about prison life and a 星矢-esque journey of progression (very much in the style of Japanese manga). Taking haymakers, hooks, and knee strikes and still managing a strong comeback? Rocky wouldn't dare write it that way. Compared to "Asura: The City of Madness," this is just child's play.

Fighting rooster destroyer! The influence of Japanese manga is huge.

Here's the English translation of the movie review: A tale of underdog triumph. A meek boy, constantly bullied in school, ends up in prison after an accidental assault. There, he continues to be victimized by his fellow inmates, always at the bottom of the food chain. Luckily, he encounters a mixed martial arts champion imprisoned for manslaughter. Seeing potential in him (perhaps mistakenly), the champion agrees to train him. The protagonist diligently hones his skills, developing considerable muscle and basic fighting techniques. As a result, he's no longer afraid of his prison tormentors. Upon release, he confidently faces his vengeful enemies and prevails. Ultimately, he becomes a young, ex-convict fighting expert. The scene where the MMA champion turns the tables on the thief is incredibly satisfying.
