あらすじ

The film offers a poignant analysis of humanity amidst war. The visceral reactions to bombing, the desperate cries to end it, and the fraternal bloodshed all highlight the brutalizing effects of conflict. The subsequent purge of communists further underscores the absurdity and terror that war can unleash upon the human psyche.

Well, the common people always end up being the ones who suffer the most. The supposed immersive, on-the-ground feeling wasn't as thrilling as I expected. It felt less engaging than playing "Medal of Honor."

It wasn't until I left the [Film Archive] last night that it suddenly dawned on me that the handsome younger brother in this film was the same simple-minded son from "Mother." Although told from a South Korean perspective, the director largely succeeds in portraying both North and South Korea with impartiality. Both sides are engaged in killing, and both engage in indiscriminate killing. When it comes to dealing with ideology, the Chinese-speaking directors from mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong consistently fall short in terms of vision and style.

Sixty years represent a lifetime, yet the consequences can reverberate through generations.
