Con Job, also known as Trust, is a 2018 American heist dark comedy film directed by Zachary Cotler and Magdalena Zyzak. The film takes place in Los Angeles and revolves around the lives of two friends, Jack (Nick Krause) and Alex (Zachary Spicer), living in a city of illusions and superficial relationships. Jack is a narcissist who cares little for his family or friends. He only looks out for himself and is driven by his own desires. His friend Alex, on the other hand, is struggling financially and can barely make ends meet. Desperate for money, Jack and Alex devise a plan to swindle Jack's estranged brother, Sam (Austin Abrams), out of a large sum of money. The plan is orchestrated by a corrupt notary, Leo (Chris Coy), who helps the duo concoct a scheme to sell Sam's house without his knowledge. Their plan is to convince Sam that he's lost the house due to some technicality in the paperwork, and that there's nothing he can do about it. Meanwhile, Alex poses as a real estate agent and tells Sam that his house has been sold to a wealthy buyer, and he must vacate the premises immediately. Jack, on the other hand, acts as the notary, making sure that Sam signs away all his rights to the house. However, their scheme begins to unravel when Leo dies suddenly in a freak accident. Jack and Alex must then come up with a new plan to get rid of Sam and keep the money for themselves. They begin to concoct an even more complex and elaborate scheme, but things quickly spiral out of control. As the story progresses, we see the cracks in Jack and Alex's friendship begin to show. Alex is not as selfish and manipulative as Jack, and he begins to question the morality of what they're doing. He starts to feel bad for tricking Sam out of his house, but Jack is more interested in the money than in doing the right thing. The film takes a dark and satirical look at the world of wealth and privilege. The two friends are not motivated by a desire to help others but by a desire to get ahead and increase their own wealth. This is a world where the ends justify the means, and people are willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want, even if it means causing harm to others. As Jack and Alex's scheme becomes more and more complicated, they start to lose control of the situation. They're forced to think on their feet and come up with new solutions to the problems that arise. Despite their increasing desperation, they still manage to keep a straight face and pretend that everything is going according to plan. One of the most memorable moments in the film comes when Alex visits Sam's house, posing as a real estate agent, and informs him that the house has been sold. Sam, understandably, is devastated, and we see the pain and betrayal in his eyes. This scene serves as a turning point in the film, as Alex begins to question whether what they're doing is really worth it. Despite this, Jack insists on pushing forward with their scheme, convinced that he can find a way to get out of the situation with their money intact. However, as the film reaches its climax, it becomes clear that their plan is doomed to fail. The notary's death has created a hole in their scheme, and they're forced to confront the consequences of their actions. In the end, Jack and Alex's scheme unravels completely, and they're left to face the consequences of their actions. The film ends with a sense of despair and regret, as the two friends realize that they've made a terrible mistake. They're forced to confront the fact that they've hurt others, and that their selfish desires have led to a downward spiral of chaos and destruction. Con Job is a thought-provoking and darkly comedic take on the world of wealth and privilege. With its intricate plot and memorable characters, it's a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. It raises questions about the morality of our actions and the consequences of our desires. It's a film that will make you laugh, but also make you think.
