The story and setting aren't clearly explained, yet the film relentlessly throws visuals and emotions at the audience. It relies on these flimsy emotions to create grand spectacles. By the time they're desperately striving at the Deep Sea Eye, I'm left wondering what they're even fighting for. That's the problem with the entire movie – it's unclear what drives the plot forward. It constructs a world that's only skin-deep and can't stand on its own, then uses an "Alice in Wonderland" or "Spirited Away"-esque journey-into-another-world adventure structure to shape this so-called deep-sea tale.

Lavish visuals, lackluster story. High hopes, deep disappointment. It's almost deceptive. Anyone with a decent film background wouldn't be impressed. Almost fell asleep in the first hour. The story is too thin, characters are simplistic, and the plot is practically nonexistent. Three stars, all for the stunning effects and animation.

Wake up, it's over. Well, at least it has some self-awareness. Utterly boring. If it could actually make me cry, it would at least be worth the price of the ticket. Really not suitable for release on the first day of the Lunar New Year, it's way too depressing... What values are the creators trying to convey? It's like seven "Monkey King: Hero is Back" movies separating it from "I Am What I Am." Deeply Disappointed. Please, stop focusing on the visuals and just tell a good story!
