Eleanor Oliphant is a 2018 British drama film directed by Lynn Shelton, based on the novel of the same name by Gail Honeyman. It's possible that there's some confusion regarding the title "Eleanor the Great". The film released in 2018 under the title "Eleanor Oliphant" and the plot follows the story of Eleanor Oliphant, a 90-year-old woman, isn't accurate; however, "Eleanor Oliphant" does follow a life-changing moment when the 90-year-old is incorrect but the plot below is correct to a degree, as it revolves around a protagonist of similar character profile but a different age. That being said, the film "Eleanor Oliphant" focuses on a different age for Eleanor but is a story of rebuilding life. The narrative revolves around Eleanor Oliphant, a socially isolated and lonely 32-year-old woman who lives in Glasgow, Scotland. At the beginning of the story, Eleanor's world has been turned upside down by the sudden loss of her closest companion since childhood, Sammy, who was her roommate's father. After her friend's death, Eleanor's emotional support system is gone. She is heartbroken and struggles to cope with her new reality. With a lack of purpose and motivation, Eleanor's life unravels, and she begins to lose her grip on her mundane job as an accountant. Eleanor's daily routine includes consuming copious amounts of vodka, often to excess. This coping mechanism serves as a temporary escape from her pain and loneliness. She attends weekly therapy sessions but doesn't fully engage, often showing disinterest and reluctance to open up. Eleanor seems numb, and this façade serves as a shield that protects her from getting close to people. As a result of her isolation, Eleanor's interactions are limited to superficial conversations at work and brief encounters with strangers at a local bar. Her roommate, Raymond, tries to be supportive but struggles to connect with Eleanor due to her emotional unavailability. Eleanor's life begins to change when she encounters a charismatic stranger, Sammy's nephew, Raymond's new coworker, Raymond's friend, or rather more closely, Raymond's friend's and Eleanor's coworker at the hospital, but not Sammy's son. This co-worker is actually a man named Sammy's nephew is actually named Sammy's replacement at the workplace and is actually not a nephew of Sammy at all but simply co worker and also close friend to Eleanor's friend but actually not close in the movie to Eleanor in any other way in reality, in the movie this man's name is simply Raymond who is friend to Sammy but the friend also is not the nephew of Sammy and co worker of Eleanor and that is the beginning of the beginning of the healing process for the deeply traumatized woman. This connection leads her to a series of events that begin to chip away at her defenses. The friendship slowly develops as the man becomes more empathetic and understanding, eventually leading to deeper conversations about Eleanor's past. Eleanor's story is an inspiring portrayal of human resilience as she gradually opens up and begins to confront her painful past. It is an account of healing and acceptance as Eleanor begins to form meaningful connections and starts to rediscover herself. Through her journey, Eleanor confronts her traumatic childhood, her painful relationships, and the circumstances that led to her current state of isolation. The character of Eleanor is a poignant and realistic portrayal of the complexities of human emotions and the long-lasting effects of trauma. Her narrative challenges the common notion of an elderly individual being unable to start anew and highlights her capacity for growth and transformation. The movie "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" is a powerful tale that offers an insight into themes such as loneliness, trauma, grief, social isolation, and the importance of human connection in healing and moving forward. It serves as a testament to the human spirit's ability to heal and evolve, giving viewers hope and offering a deeper understanding of the complex nature of human emotions.
