Consider this film a spiritual sibling to *Léon: The Professional*, sharing almost the same core narrative: a humane experiment conducted on a killer. It's about entrusting the most beautiful of human emotions to a wild beast, and seeing what response, if any, it elicits. Nikita and Léon offer different answers. Léon becomes increasingly formidable, refusing to yield, and love makes his soul rich and complete. Nikita, on the other hand, kills while shedding tears. She becomes increasingly afraid. Love brings her joy, but also makes her vulnerable. At the film's outset, Nikita exhibits utter bestiality, displaying lawlessness and rampant killing; her language is regressed.
