My Tutor

あらすじ
Bobby Chrystal, a high school senior, has his entire future mapped out in front of him, courtesy of his affluent and demanding father. Yale University has always been the expected destination, but in order for Bobby to even be considered, he must excel academically. Bobby's current grade in French is woefully inadequate, making his prospects for acceptance look bleak. Confronted by his father with this reality, Bobby is forced to find a solution, lest he incur the wrath of his disapproving parent. The solution comes in the unlikely form of Laura Kelly, a stunning 29-year-old tutor. Laura is an attractive young woman with an undeniable presence that commands attention. Her qualifications aside, it's her captivating appearance that makes her the perfect antidote to Bobby's current emotional turmoil. The terms of their agreement are clear: in exchange for a hefty sum of money, Laura will tutor Bobby over the summer and prepare him to ace his make-up exam, thereby opening up Yale's doors. As the summer unfolds, Laura proves to be a multifaceted character with a depth that resonates with Bobby on various levels. Their initial interactions suggest a transactional relationship, but beneath the surface lies a rich dynamic that transcends mere academic tutelage. Laura's presence injects a sense of confidence into Bobby's life, allowing him to navigate the complexities of adolescence with a newfound sense of assurance. Bobby's social circle consists of his friends, who seem to be fixated on a singular goal: losing their virginity. The group's escapades are filled with reckless abandon and an overriding desire to partake in activities with questionable outcomes. As they try to guide Bobby in the direction of 'revelry,' Laura serves as a steady influence, guiding him toward a path of academic rigor and personal growth. Yet, despite the allure of these strange excursions, Bobby finds himself inexorably drawn to Laura. The dynamics between them evolve from teacher-student to a romantic connection that's hard to ignore. Their chemistry becomes increasingly palpable as the summer wears on, but this newfound closage also raises questions about the morality of their arrangement. Is Bobby's father paying Laura to educate or seduce his son? The distinction blurs as Laura's motives shift, her interest in Bobby extending beyond mere financial reward. This internal conflict raises questions about the nature of their relationship. Bobby's father had initially commissioned Laura to teach him, but as she gains influence over his life, it becomes increasingly difficult to pinpoint her primary goal. The boundaries blur, and with it, Bobby's sense of identity becomes increasingly entangled with the complex web of emotions that Laura has unleashed. Throughout, the movie raises questions about class, entitlement, and the social disparities that shape our lives. Bobby's affluent upbringing has shielded him from the world's harsh realities, making him both ill-equipped to deal with adversity and oblivious to the privileges that come with his status. Through Laura, Bobby encounters a world that is very different from his own, a world where economic reality and harsher truths prevail. The film ends with a bittersweet conclusion, one that defies easy categorization. While Bobby does pass his make-up exam, the relationship between him and Laura is irreparably complicated by the underlying dynamics of their arrangement. The lines between teacher and student, friend and confidant, are blurred, and the audience is left to ponder the moral implications of their actions. In My Tutor, the characters exist at the crossroads of adolescent turmoil, social inequality, and a deep-seated desire to break free from the expectations that govern their lives. The movie navigates these complexities with a deft hand, leaving the audience to wonder which path is most authentic – the one that comes with privilege or the one that stems from personal freedom.
