あらすじ

The story is overly simplistic. After learning about the historical Pocahontas, it's clear that while the "saving someone's life" incident did occur, the events that followed were drastically different.

Seriously? "That's it?" I wanted to scream "Bullshit!" at the end.

This movie's romanticized portrayal of a colonizer falling in love with a native woman feels incredibly inappropriate, especially given the historical context of colonization and the suffering inflicted upon indigenous peoples. The "true love conquers all" trope feels dated and tone-deaf when you consider the real-life events and the violence that occurred. Knowing the historical figures behind the story makes it difficult to sympathize with the film's narrative, as it now seems to gloss over the harsh realities of the past and, frankly, whitewashes the invasion. Moreover, knowing that Pocahontas later leaves John Smith for another man in the sequel makes the original romance feel even more contrived and ultimately, unconvincing.
