あらすじ
1895年、 eccentricな科学者H.G.ウェルズ、通称ジョージは、自身のタイムトラベル理論を証明するため、実験室にタイムマシンを建設する。家政婦の息子フィルビーの助けを借り、ジョージは友人であり相談相手のデイビッド・フィルマーを後に残し、時代を超えた旅に出る。 時を旅するうち、ジョージは802,701年にたどり着き、人類がエロイ族とモーロック族という二つの異なる種に進化していることを発見する。エロイ族は平和で穏やかな生き物で地上に住み、モーロック族は地表の下、暗いトンネルや洞窟で苦労して働いている。 当初、ジョージは過去の知識を持つ者としてエロイ族に英雄として迎えられる。しかし彼はすぐに、エロイ族の世界が科学や技術の理解を欠いた、脆弱な基盤の上に成り立っていることに気づく。一方、モーロック族は高度なエンジニアリングスキルを持ち、根底にあるインフラを管理している。 ジョージはこの奇妙な新世界を探求するにつれ、人類の運命についてますます懸念を抱くようになる。彼はモーロック族がエロイ族を捕食し、自分たちの存在を維持するための食料として利用していることを知る。この発見に horrorを感じたジョージは、自分の時代に戻る方法を見つけ、人類に差し迫った危機を警告しようと決意する。 道中、ジョージは様々な障害や危険に遭遇する。モーロック族の攻撃で怪我を負い、荒野に漂流するなど。また、エロイ族も見た目ほど無邪気ではなく、一部は密かに権力と支配を求めていることを知る。 結局、ジョージの旅は、抑制されない進歩の危険 sign と、人類の歴史という壮大なタペストリーにおける私たち自身の位置を理解することの重要性を伝える警告物語となる。

Time travel shows us the past, but "The Time Machine" reminds us that some futures are best left imagined. Hoping to rewrite history, a tinkerer ends up rewinding humanity's clock in a race against itself. Best enjoyed with a side of speculative wisdom and a dash of self-deprecating humor.
