あらすじ

The visual effects are stunning. The portrayal of Alpha is magnificent and fantastical, and the unique and quirky alien races are captivating, making the human protagonists seem bland in comparison. The rise of superhero movies has confined Hollywood's imagination to Earth in recent years, but thankfully we still have some directors who haven't forgotten to look up at the sky.

The first half is absolutely stunning! It feels like witnessing the birth of a defining space opera series for our time! That is, until Rihanna's cameo, which completely derails the main storyline. The entire second half then nosedives, crammed with awful, clunky dialogue. All the exciting, big-budget scenes are concentrated in the first half, while the second half feels like a cringeworthy slog, as if they ran out of money halfway through and had to rush a sloppy ending. And the two leads are simply painful to watch.

20170720. Definitely better than The Mummy! I thought I'd be surrounded by Asian teenage girls supporting their idol, but it was a full house of Americans. Guess I overestimated. The movie is quite long, but you can feel the dedication and effort put into it. Having a strong base material definitely helps with the plot, so overall it was better than expected. It seems like it's destined for the Chinese market, with two prominent shots of the Chinese flag and a segment with Mandarin broadcasting, haha. Oh, and I totally became a Rihanna fan after watching!

One of my favorite things about sci-fi films is the lavish and diverse universe-building, like in Valerian. I feel like it would have been much better with a dual male protagonist structure. Who even wants to watch a male-female partnership engaging in flirty banter between missions these days!

Over-hated by foreign media! This is, at the very least, the most visually stunning blockbuster of the year so far. The imagination is mind-blowing! The scene design is like a toned-down, quirkier, and upgraded version of *The Fifth Element*! Its strengths and weaknesses mirror *Lucy* – interesting concepts, but the story is a little contrived. The main attraction isn't the main storyline, but the spectacular visuals along the way. Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan have fantastic chemistry. Rihanna's appearance pays homage to *Cabaret*. Kris Wu's screen time is just right, and he performs his role without feeling out of place.
