Plot
In the sweltering heat of midsummer, a sense of unease settles over the quiet graveyard that has stood for generations. It is here that Todo, an elderly and wealthy man, becomes fixated on the arrival of a young woman named Sayumi. Her striking appearance and the mysterious urn she carries, containing the remains of his late mother, only serve to further pique Todo's interest. Unbeknownst to him, however, this chance encounter sets off a chain of events that will send his life spiraling out of control. Sayumi, who has been searching for her long-lost father, finds an unlikely kindred spirit in Todo. Despite his advanced age, the old man exudes a warmth and affection that is hard to resist. As their bond deepens, Sayumi begins to see Todo as more than just a surrogate father figure. Her feelings for him evolve into a deep-seated love, one that she dares not express, fearing rejection and the potential to jeopardize their fragile connection. As the days turn into weeks, Sayumi finds herself increasingly drawn to Todo's life in his sprawling villa. It is on one such visit that she comes across a shocking revelation - a portrait of a young girl named Kazumi, eerily reminiscent of Sayumi herself. The uncanny likeness is not lost on Sayumi, and she is left to ponder the identity of this mysterious doppelganger. Meanwhile, Todo's fascination with Sayumi reaches a fever pitch. His affections for her have blossomed into a deep desire to be close to her, to share in the warmth and companionship she brings to his life. However, as the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur, Todo's actions grow increasingly erratic. His fixation on Sayumi starts to consume him, threatening to destroy the boundaries they have carefully constructed around their relationship. Just as it seems that things cannot get any more complicated, a stormy night brings an uninvited guest to the villa - a presence that will further upend the delicate balance between Todo and Sayumi. This stranger's arrival serves as a catalyst for the chaos that is to follow, as the carefully constructed facade of their relationship begins to crumble under the weight of secrets, desires, and unrequited love. As the night wears on and the storm rages outside, the threads of deceit and miscommunication that have been quietly festering in the background of their relationship finally snap, sending Todo and Sayumi careening towards a collision course. The once-clear lines between love, lust, and paternal affection are now hopelessly entangled, leaving only one question - can their bond survive the maelstrom of emotions that threatens to consume them whole? In the end, it is this very turmoil that forces Todo and Sayumi to confront the true nature of their relationship. As the storm begins to subside, the dust settles on a scenario that is both unexpected and heart-wrenchingly predictable. Love, in all its complexity and guile, has reared its head in a most inconvenient and yet profoundly human way, leaving Todo and Sayumi to grapple with their complicated desires and the future that lies ahead. Ultimately, the movie serves as a poignant reminder that love and relationships are inherently messy, subject to the whims of fate and the capricious nature of human emotion.
