High Risk

Plot
High Risk is a 1991 Hong Kong action film directed by Wong Jing and written by Vincent Kok. The movie revolves around two main characters - Kit Li, played by Chow Yun-fat, and Frankie Lane, portrayed by Leslie Cheung. Kit is a tough and skilled martial artist who is working as a bodyguard and secret stunt double for the cowardly martial arts film star, Frankie. Frankie is a star in the martial arts film industry but lacks the courage to perform the stunts he does on-screen. He relies on Kit to double for him in many of the action scenes, which helps to further Kit's career as a stunt double. However, Kit's skills and bravery often put him in the spotlight, making Frankie feel overshadowed. The plot thickens when Frankie attends an exhibition of the Russian crown jewels at a prestigious hotel in Hong Kong. At the exhibition, Frankie becomes infatuated with the beautiful and wealthy Princess Carole, played by Yammie Lam, which adds to the comedic elements of the story. Meanwhile, the notorious gangster, 'The Doctor', played by Ken Lo, plans to steal the precious jewels during the exhibition. The Doctor's gang overpowers the security team at the exhibition and takes everyone hostage. With Frankie caught in the middle, he is unable to perform the stunts that Kit has been perfecting on-screen. However, Kit takes the opportunity to showcase his true skills and bravery when 'The Doctor's' gang arrives at the hotel. He uses his expertise in martial arts to fight off the thugs and protect the princess. However, it is not just a simple task as 'The Doctor' has many tricks up his sleeve and the security team is compromised. In fact, a reporter, played by Sylvia Chang, who has been keeping a close eye on Kit, begins to develop feelings for him. As the danger unfolds, Kit finds himself battling not just 'The Doctor's' men but also his own feelings for the reporter. In this battle of bravery, wits, and martial arts skills, Kit uses every trick in the book to save the day. Meanwhile, Frankie, the martial arts film star, is forced to confront his own cowardice when he witnesses Kit in action, showcasing his hidden courage and prowess in fighting off the villains. Frankie eventually must decide whether to stand up for himself and confront his weaknesses, or simply be a spectator. When 'The Doctor's' gang is defeated, Frankie is left to ponder his own courage, and we are left wondering whether he will regain his confidence as a martial artist. The film is action-packed, filled with witty dialogue and humor, particularly in the character of Kit Li, who is both brave and vulnerable. As the plot unfolds, we see the transformation of Frankie from a coward to a hero in his own right. In the film, 'The Doctor' and his men, who have been stealing and extorting everyone in the city of Hong Kong, are all thwarted by the bravery and martial arts skills of Kit. Ultimately, High Risk, a film that combines wit, action, romance, and martial arts skills brings a thrilling experience to the audience, leaving them to question, 'Who has the best Kung-Fu?'
