Shadow in the Cloud

Plot
In the midst of World War II, a USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress, a behemoth of a bomber plane, is tasked with delivering a cache of top-secret documents across the treacherous skies above the war-torn Pacific. The aircraft, a vital component in the war effort, is crewed by seasoned pilots and seasoned aircrew, all of whom have been entrusted with one of the most crucial missions of their lives. As we meet our protagonist, Mae Barber, she is introduced as a young and talented pilot who has been assigned to fly a section of the mission alongside Captain Lewis. A bit of an unknown entity on the crew, Mae is immediately beset by her own set of problems, primarily her lack of experience flying larger planes such as the B-17. Mae's journey begins with her navigating her way through a grueling series of tests and drills designed to prepare her for the long-haul mission ahead, as she learns to adjust to the new bomber's idiosyncrasies and get a feel for the weight and balance of her new ride. However, when the real mission begins and Mae takes to the skies in the B-17, the first of a series of increasingly sinister events unfolds. One of the crew members has disappeared, and though the aircrew initially assume he is simply trying to get out of the duty roster, it soon becomes apparent that something more is at play. Mae begins to feel an oppressive atmosphere that permeates every aspect of her flight, a feeling of being watched by unseen forces. It is not long before it becomes apparent that the evil presence the crew fears is real: a vengeful and supernatural figure is terrorizing the B-17, exacting vengeance on anyone who dares to fly the aircraft. As the B-17 continues on its perilous journey, Mae's crew is systematically picked off one by one. It is as if the vengeful presence has declared a personal vendetta against the aircraft and its passengers, making an all-out effort to ensure that those entrusted with the top-secret documents will never complete their mission. Throughout this gruesome ordeal, Mae Barber is the last line of defense for her crew and the mission itself. It becomes increasingly apparent that the young pilot has to come up with some form of clever trickery and determination, as she battles against the vengeful spirit to ensure her crew is kept safe and the B-17 reaches its final destination. As the mission unfolds and Mae becomes trapped in the nightmare world created by the supernatural entity, the stakes escalate further. Mae begins to unravel the tangled mystery behind the B-17's supernatural presence, slowly but surely piecing together the truth behind this malevolent force that terrorizes her. With time, the line between reality and nightmare starts to blur for Mae and the remaining crew members of the B-17. Mae starts to wonder whether the vengeful spirit is truly evil or if it might be hiding a much darker secret. As the B-17 approaches its final destination, Mae is trapped in a precarious game of cat and mouse with the supernatural presence, the stakes escalating further with every passing moment. The fate of the mission and the lives of everyone on board hang precariously in the balance. It is only when Mae and the crew of the B-17 find themselves on the precipice of a disastrous crash, which would result in a complete failure of the mission that the young pilot finds an opportunity to break the curse that afflicts the B-17. Using every last ounce of cunning and intelligence at her disposal, Mae devises a plan of action that finally breaks the curse that had held the crew hostage for so long. Ultimately, Mae and her crew emerge victorious from their harrowing ordeal, narrowly completing their mission with their very lives hanging precariously in the balance. In the midst of the chaos that ensues, the crew is able to transmit their secret documents, thus securing a small yet vital victory in the war efforts. As they limp their battered aircraft back to base, they are filled with a deep and abiding sense of relief, for they have finally escaped the grasp of the shadow in the cloud.
