Sons of Summer

Plot

As the sun beats down on the California coast, Sean and his tight-knit group of friends embark on a nostalgic road trip to pay tribute to their beloved mentor, Sean's father. It's been a year since his passing, and the group is eager to relive the memories they shared with him at his favorite beachside spot. The trip is meant to be a lighthearted celebration of their friend's life, but it takes an unexpected turn when Sean's old friend and drug dealer, Tyler, shows up with a proposition that can't be ignored. Tyler has one final job for Sean, a favor that promises to bring in a substantial sum of money. But there's a catch – he needs Sean to steal a valuable hero statue from the local surf shop. The statue holds sentimental value to the group, and Sean is torn between his loyalty to Tyler and his desire to honor his father's memory. As the group arrives at the beach, old wounds begin to resurface. Tensions arise as they confront the harsh realities of their lives and the consequences of their past choices. Amidst the chaos, Sean must navigate his relationships with his friends, including his on-again, off-again love interest, Maya. Her presence serves as a reminder that there's more to life than just the thrill of the ride. The trip becomes a journey of self-discovery as the group faces their fears and confronts the demons they've been trying to escape. Through a series of misadventures, heart-to-hearts, and soul-searching moments, the friends come to realize that it's time to move forward and leave their troubled past behind. As the sun sets on the beach, Sean must make a choice between his loyalty to Tyler and his own sense of morality. Will he follow through with the job or take a stand for what's right? The decision will have far-reaching consequences for the group and serve as a testament to their strength, resilience, and the power of friendship.

Riddled with plot holes, the entire storyline is rife with amateurish mistakes and inconsistencies. The exposition in the early stages fails to clearly and completely establish character relationships and the causes of events, making it difficult to quickly get invested. The plot progresses slowly, and the connections between scenes lack logical cohesion. For instance, some of the road trip segments have little to do with the main story, even feeling drawn out and redundant. While the visuals possess a certain aesthetic appeal, with some excellent shots of the coastline and surfing, the overall image quality and style lack uniformity and uniqueness, failing to create a strong visual impact or memorable moments. With a runtime of 88 minutes...

Four surfing sons embark on a memorial "surfari" to a quaint beach town, honoring a father tragically murdered thirty years prior. However, this road trip takes a deadly turn.
