You're Next

You're Next is a 2011 American home invasion horror film directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. The film takes place in rural Pennsylvania, where the Davison family has gathered for their annual weekend retreat, now in commemoration of their wedding anniversary. At the center of the story is Erin (played by Sharni Vinson), the niece of the family, who has not seen her family in years and feels disconnected from them. She is joined by her boyfriend, Crispin, who is eager to meet Erin's family and fit in. Erin's aunt, Aunt Dot (played by Barbara Crampton), her husband, Kelly (played by Nick Tucci), and their two children, Felix (played by Larry Fessenden) and Aimee (played by Amy Seimetz), are initially wary of Crispin due to his rough demeanor. However, the initial tension is slowly broken down as Erin's family sees a different side of her boyfriend, which makes him an acceptable addition to their group. Upon arrival, it becomes apparent that the family members have some skeletons in their closet and past resentments. The tension is palpable as the family struggles to be in a confined space for too long. The atmosphere is further heightened with each passing minute. As the group enjoys their evening, a sudden home invasion erupts when a group of masked intruders, sporting black masks, break into the secluded cabin. The intruders, a group of relatives belonging to the family of Alex (played by A.J. Bowen), Erin's cousin, begin to terrorize the family by beating and killing them one by one. However, in the midst of chaos, it becomes apparent that Erin, who has an Australian background and has been involved in some martial art-related activities, has more than just ordinary human physical strength and quick thinking. With her background in fighting, Erin decides that it is time for the attackers to know a new definition for 'hiding'. As the film descends deeper into chaos and violence, Erin proves that she is no ordinary girl with ordinary fighting skills. With more gruesome acts taking place, Crispin eventually meets his demise, which sets Erin's inner spirit soaring as she unleashes her full potential as a force to be reckoned with. As night falls and her loved ones are taken down one by one, Erin is more determined than ever to avenge their deaths. It is in the final confrontation between Erin and the masked killers that one of them, one of the masked invaders who was actually a family member, finally removes their mask to reveal who they were. To Erin's astonishment, it is Felix, her family nephew who was a child at that point, and is now part of her attackers. However, her family member, Aimee, is revealed to be a victim who was already dead, a plot twist that makes Aimee's killer also the last one to have removed his mask at the final scene, revealing him to be Erin’s Uncle Felix.
