Anatomia de uma Queda começa com uma imagem impressionante, uma vista geral da cidade alpina francesa de Montepierre, mais tarde envolta em lágrimas e tristeza, onde Sara (Sandra Hüller) vive com o marido Thomas (Swann Arlaud) e o filho adotivo Laurent (Lucan Wilmut), que sofre de cegueira total. Sara trabalha como tutora e também ajuda a amiga Léa (Léna Quincy) a cuidar da fazenda de cavalos do marido. Suas vidas tranquilas e pacíficas tomam um rumo inesperado quando o corpo de Thomas é encontrado sem vida nos Alpes Franceses, embaixo da rampa de cavalos de seu negócio, presumivelmente dando à sua morte uma indicação de acidente. Laurent é encontrado amarrado à rampa de cavalos, abalado, porém em silêncio. Este incidente chocante abre uma caixa de Pandora e prepara o terreno para uma série de acontecimentos que expõem a verdadeira relação entre Sara, Thomas e seu filho. Enquanto a inspetora-chefe (Marina Foïs) investiga e busca justiça, muitos aspectos da vida de Sara, incluindo seu relacionamento com o filho e seu marido, Thomas, que atuava como figura paterna, tornam-se objeto de escrutínio. O crescente desconforto de Sara a leva a ser mais defensiva, enquanto sua amiga Léa mostra à detetive inconsistências em seus álibis. Anos antes da noite da morte de Thomas, havia indícios de dúvida da figura paterna amorosa que Thomas às vezes retratava. When the judicial system is built upon prejudice and discrimination, standing in court means you not only have to defend yourself against accusations of murder, but you also have to defend your gender, your sexuality, and even in a language that is not truly yours.

1. I agree that neither party in a relationship should lose themselves, nor should they place the blame on the other. Most importantly, the decision to sacrifice oneself should never be made in the first place. 2. If we were to reverse the roles of the couple in the film, we would find that the husband's situation is actually the predicament that the majority of women face in reality. However, society has become accustomed to this invisible oppression of women. When the oppressed becomes a man, and he commits suicide because of it, everyone's (including the audience's) first reaction is - impossible.
