Sword Art Online o Filme -Progressive- Scherzo da Noite Profunda
Enredo

This was amazing! It would have been even better if Kirito had even less screen time (kidding...mostly).

Adding a star just for Asuna taking a bath.

Kawahara Reki has struck gold, realizing that everyone still loves SAO the most, and has decided to churn out a movie every year. Fine, it's definitely good for some simple entertainment. Just don't go in with any other expectations. It's pretty cool and visually appealing, which is enough.

What I was most worried about while watching was that they'd fall into the cliché of killing off Mito, with Kirito then saving Asuna, who's heartbroken, in the role of a savior. But the fact that the animation team managed to give Mito, who could've been a mere tool, a complete arc is commendable. Instead of letting the audience get sidetracked by the yuri undertones in the early to mid-stages and painting Mito as Kirito's "mirror image," she inevitably needed traits of an ordinary person (escaping reality, self-deception, self-criticism). She's not unlikeable, and her character arc is well-rounded from beginning to end (her performance in the final battle was impressive, and she provided Asuna with weapon support). In the end, Kirito unleashed his sword skills, projecting both awesomeness and shining benevolence, and the message was delivered effectively. P.S. Actually, before watching the movie, I was hoping to see more of Asuna...

It's been ten years since the first season aired on July 7, 2012. Back to SAO, to where it all began. *Progressive* is a detailed supplement to the original series' Aincrad arc, acting as both a spin-off and a prequel. It unfolds from Asuna's perspective and introduces a new character, Mito. The first half focuses on yuri undertones and the bond between Asuna and Mito, while the second half marks the fateful encounter with Kirito. The animation is top-notch, delivering exhilarating action sequences, and Yuki Kajiura's score enhances the cruel reality of the battles, especially against the carnivorous plant and the final boss. From the whirlwind of the Black and White Swordsman to the dwindling reputation during the Alicization arc, it's a bittersweet reflection. Unknowingly, we've reached the age to bid farewell to our *chuunibyou* days...
