Enola Holmes 2 picks up where the first film left off, with Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) now operating as a detective-for-hire in London, 1897. With her incredible skills and razor-sharp mind, she finds herself tackling an intriguing case that would test her mettle as a sleuth. The story begins with Enola strolling through the bustling streets of London, her crimson cloak and curly hair standing out amidst the sea of Victorian-era attire. She receives a cryptic message from a client asking for her assistance in finding her missing sister, Bessie. However, things take an unexpected turn when Enola discovers the intended client is none other than Eudoria Dowler, a member of the esteemed Dowler family. Bessie's disappearance appears to be connected to a mysterious girl named Olive Dowler, who is reportedly threatening the family's reputation. Intrigued by the enigmatic Bessie and the seemingly innocent Olive, Enola decides to take on her first official case, unbeknownst to her long-lost brother, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill). Enola pays a visit to her brother's residence, where she is warmly greeted by Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin), the older and more reliable sibling. Mycroft readily provides Enola with information on the missing Bessie, who it seems, used to be one of Olive's tutors. The enigmatic Bessie may have vanished under suspicious circumstances, leaving behind only a cryptic poem. This sparks Enola's curiosity and fuels her determination to find her client's missing sister. Enola starts the case by interviewing various acquaintances connected to the mysterious Dowler family, but it quickly becomes evident that nothing is as straightforward as it initially seems. She discovers that Eudoria may be torn between two factions within the family: the more liberal-minded Eudoria, who sympathizes with the plight of women, and the patriarch, Baron Dowler (David Stewart), who refuses to acknowledge his eldest daughter's progressive views. Enola chooses not to pursue the potential mole, choosing instead, the cryptic clue left behind by Olive. She quickly understands the link between the missing girl, Olive, and the more enigmatic Bessie. This realization leads Enola to travel from her London home to Faganhill, a part of England she knows little about. While investigating the school and Bessie's links to Olive, Enola is joined by a group of familiar faces, including Tewkesbury (Harris Dickinson), a friend from the London streets where Enola first made a name for herself, and Vesper (Laura Carmichael) and Edna (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), who prove crucial for decoding cryptic messages. However, things grow complicated for Enola when Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill) arrives on the scene. Initially, Sherlock sees Enola's foray into detective work as a distraction, rather than a serious threat to his own expertise. He encourages Enola to return home, focusing instead on his own pursuit of the truth. Despite the brothers' conflicting views, Enola refuses to let Sherlock direct the course of the investigation. The two work alongside one another in a cat-and-mouse game to unravel the threads surrounding the missing girl, Olive. They stumble upon cryptic messages left behind by the hidden culprits and further dig into Olive's past, seeking to unravel the sinister plot orchestrated within the Dowler family. Emboldened by her instincts, Enola's bond with her long-forgotten brother deepens throughout the investigation, dispelling earlier tensions. Her growing confidence also allows her to confront Sherlock in his world of high-stakes London detective work. Throughout her perilous pursuit, the diligent detective has a keen sense of understanding of the world, largely due to her knowledge of her family's business dealings. At the center of her sharp wit lies the unsolved disappearance of Olive Dowler, followed by the connections with her previous clients. In due course, Enola pieces together invaluable evidence hinting that the Dowler family and its members have created an elaborate ruse with the assistance of corrupt social influencers. Both Sherlock and Enola set out to untangle the complex strands surrounding the fate of several influential teenagers, caught in an illicit prostitution racket that continues to haunt Victorian London. Enola and her brother continue to work closely together until they uncover evidence of a major conspiracy that targets some of London's most influential families. Revealing heinous crimes and corruption at the highest levels of society seems beyond Enola's initial plans of recovering the missing Bessie and unravelling a misdefined case at first by her client. As Enola's unorthodox knowledge and passion as a detective put the truth public-facing, for a few seconds, her true purpose of recovering the lost girl slips into secondary importance behind greater social and moral targets.
