Family Guy Presents: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side is an animated comedy film based on the animated TV series Family Guy. The movie premiered in 2007 and was created by Seth MacFarlane, who is also the creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show. Something, Something, Something, Dark Side is an alternate retelling of the classic sci-fi film, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, using the same characters and plot, but in the style of a Family Guy episode. The movie opens with a power outage at the Griffin house, and Peter (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) decides to entertain the family by retelling the story of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Peter begins the story by introducing the characters of Luke Skywalker (voiced by Mike Henry), a young farm boy who lives with his aunt, Beru (voiced by Alex Borstein), and her husband, Owen (voiced by Danny Smith), on the planet Tatooine. As Peter starts to tell the story, he is interrupted by Lois, who is watching TV in the next room, only to get drawn into the story as well. Peter's interpretation of the Star Wars universe is naturally comedic, and he includes many winking references to Star Wars fans and other pop culture references. As Luke begins his training as a Jedi under the guidance of Yoda (also voiced by Frank Welker), Peter continues to improvise and make humorous additions to the story. Luke's training on Dagobah is a highlight, as Peter creates a sequence where Luke is forced to fight a giant, walking, three-legged chicken. This scene is reminiscent of Family Guy's cutaway gags, which often feature absurd and humorous storylines. Meanwhile Stewie (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) is playing with a toy spaceship, only to be interrupted by Brian (also voiced by Seth MacFarlane), who tries to tell Stewie a story about the "real" Star Wars universe. Brian's explanation of the Star Wars universe is naturally dry and sarcastic, as is typical of the character. As Luke becomes more confident in his Jedi abilities, Peter's retelling of the story takes on a more sinister tone, with Darth Vader (also voiced by Seth MacFarlane) appearing as a comically evil character. Peter's portrayal of Darth Vader is both hilarious and disturbing at times, incorporating elements of Family Guy's dark humor. The family's retelling of the film also touches on the iconic scenes where Han Solo (voiced by Alec Sulkin) and Boba Fett (voiced by Alex Borstein) engage in a lightsaber duel, as well as the infamous "no" scene, in which Yoda refuses to let Luke go to Hoth in order to save the Rebel Alliance from the Empire. Peter's version of these scenes is naturally exaggerated and humorous, while also staying true to the spirit of the original. As the story comes to a close, the Grffins reflect on Luke Skywalker's journey and Peter's unique interpretation of the Star Wars universe. The movie ends with a series of comedic gags and cutaway scenes, showcasing the characters in various Star Wars-themed scenarios. Throughout Something, Something, Something, Dark Side, MacFarlane's signature blend of cutaway gags, non-sequiturs, and pop culture references is on display, showcasing his unique comedic style. The movie is a comedic love letter to the Star Wars franchise, incorporating the humor and wit of Family Guy into the classic sci-fi film.
