Theater Camp: El Campamento Teatral

Trama

Couldn't get into it at all. Found myself dozing off throughout the entire film. As a comedy, it's simply not funny; as a musical, it's severely lacking in songs; and as a mockumentary, the plot is just too childish. What exactly are Ben Platt and his spouse trying to achieve here?

The mockumentary format, coupled with the rich, vintage film color grading, creates an absolutely unparalleled visual texture thanks to the handheld camera work. Using rehearsals as a gateway to showcase the daily life of the theater camp, and expressing the film's message through authentic Broadway musical numbers: "Love and dedication, dreams and pursuits," delivers a delicate, genuine emotional impact that is natural, vivid, and inspiring. The kids are absolutely adorable! Whether in their performances or everyday life, they possess a delightful ingenuity that is incredibly healing. Difficulties are merely interludes; passion is forever! The film suggests everyone should have dreams and the perseverance to pursue them, which reflects the film's value and the meaning of life.

Shot handheld, the manic performances onstage cut to bewildered expressions offstage - very reminiscent of "The Office," but still hilarious. Kids' comedies have been so good lately! And after the movie, I even saw Nolan coming out of the "Oppenheimer" premiere. What a day!

Hard pass the moment I saw kids cheering for the flamboyant gay teacher. (7.3/2136) 1003 short reviews and 3 five-star reviews. “Drama education is so important and impossible to replicate in China,” “We can turn cardboard into gold,” “Behind the scenes, people are always moved by this sincerity and passion.”

Theater Camp is a charming comedy that celebrates the magic of theater. With its vibrant cast of characters, the film explores themes of creativity, community, and identity. Against the backdrop of a struggling theater camp, the story unfolds with wit, humor, and heart. The contrast between the passionate theater enthusiasts and the tech-savvy son provides plenty of comedic moments, while the film's core message about the power of art to bring people together shines through.

Theater Camp sounds like the perfect place to find a hit, but it’s not just about performances—it’s about family, weirdness, and a little bit of chaos.
