Julianne Moore is like a high-end version of a typical internet influencer, while Natalie Portman plays a doctoral student in "influencer studies," literally taking notes the entire time. The former attempts to create an image of everything she doesn't possess, including a romantic love, a perfect family, elegant taste, and an indifferent attitude towards the past and present crisis. The latter tries to puncture the facade and capture the more fundamental darkness behind it. The difference is, an influencer's falseness is easily exposed, but Moore's "falseness," even when broken open, is still "false."
