Trama
Mentre i membri del Killer Book Club si riuniscono nel loro rifugio isolato, l'atmosfera è elettrica di attesa e cameratismo. Il gruppo di otto amici, tutti appassionati di horror, si incontra annualmente da anni per condividere la loro passione per il lato oscuro della narrativa. Ma il raduno di quest'anno prende una svolta mortale quando un misterioso clown assassino inizia a perseguitarli, prendendo di mira ogni membro uno ad uno. Inizialmente, gli omicidi sembrano casuali e non collegati, ma man mano che il numero delle vittime aumenta, i sopravvissuti iniziano a notare uno schema inquietante. Ogni vittima ha una segreta connessione con un famigerato autore horror, le cui opere oscure e contorte hanno catturato l'immaginazione del gruppo. L'assassino sembra usare questa conoscenza condivisa contro di loro, sfruttando le loro paure più profonde e i loro segreti più oscuri. Mentre i membri rimanenti del Killer Book Club cercano freneticamente di svelare il mistero dietro gli omicidi, si rendono conto che non stanno solo combattendo per la sopravvivenza, ma anche affrontando gli oscuri recessi delle loro stesse psiche. Clichéd and unoriginal.

Until the reveal, I genuinely thought the main character was the real jester. This film tries too hard to be profound in some parts, while being overly obvious in others. The plot lacks depth and isn't trashy enough, making it a mediocre effort. The lead actress is pretty, but I prefer Sara, she's truly beautiful.

The setting is good, and some of the jokes are clever. But the script is ruined by its insistence on a heterosexual universe and a lack of originality. It would have been much more interesting if it were about two female killers (why couldn't they have met online and written a novel together?). The male killer is too predictable; any "perfect" "Mr. Perfect" is always problematic, both in horror movies and in real life. The campus scenes are good (that aerial shot of the dormitory building looks like a coffin from a vampire movie, which is terrifying!), and the abandoned swimming pool scene is also well done. The predatory professor and the antisocial killer both get impaled by Don Quixote, which is quite fitting karmic retribution. If the female lead had just stabbed him in the eyes and scrambled his brains, we could have cut ten minutes of boring plot. As for her female friends...
