Tango e Cash
Trama
Nel film commedia d'azione del 1989 "Tango e Cash", due detective antidroga agli antipodi, Ray Tango (Sylvester Stallone) e Gabriel Cash (Estelle Getty), sono costretti a mettere da parte le loro divergenze e collaborare per sconfiggere un noto signore del crimine. Il film si apre con Tango, un poliziotto senza fronzoli e ligio al dovere di New York City, che viene inviato a Los Angeles per indagare su un importante traffico di droga andato storto. Nel frattempo, Cash, un detective eccentrico e anticonvenzionale di Los Angeles, sta affrontando le conseguenze di un'operazione sotto copertura fallita che lo ha messo in difficoltà. Tango e Cash sono costretti a collaborare per sconfiggere il loro nemico comune, Yves Perret (Michael Jeter), uno spietato signore del crimine che ha usato la sua vasta ricchezza e influenza per alimentare il suo impero criminale. Perret è furioso per la perdita di guadagni che Tango e Cash gli hanno causato smantellando le sue operazioni di droga e non si fermerà davanti a nulla per vendicarsi. Man mano che i due detective lavorano insieme, inizialmente si scontrano a causa dei loro approcci molto diversi alla polizia. Alla fine, Tango e Cash riescono a sconfiggere l'impero criminale di Perret, ma non prima che questi scateni un ultimo brutale attacco contro di loro. Mentre la polvere si deposita, i due detective condividono una fragorosa risata e un cenno di apprezzamento per le reciproche abilità, segnando l'inizio di una bella amicizia che durerà a lungo dopo i titoli di coda. Con la sua miscela di umorismo, azione e cuore, "Tango e Cash" è un film imperdibile per i fan delle commedie d'azione degli anni '80.

For Saura, this feels like a routine, albeit a skilled one. Thinking about it, Saura and Zhang Yimou have many similarities: prolific output, involvement in the Olympics, group exercises, bold color palettes, traditional female roles... But that "fear, anxiety, history will always come to light" passage, someone like Zhang Yimou, as a 'national teacher,' couldn't film that... (We only have "you did something to me"). Furthermore, creative anxiety is projected through the film-within-a-film format, while also serving as a form of catharsis. Screening this film at the Wanping Theater is perfect. It's hard to describe the impact of the camera gradually pushing toward the silhouette of the two dancers against the sunrise backdrop (the high-contrast, slightly detail-lacking film becomes a style). A play within a play, a dance within a dream - with dance as the language of desire, and drama as a condensed version of life itself. The recurring presence of cameras throughout provides clues and layers to the narrative. Otherwise, by the end, it's hard to tell where the performance ends and reality begins, or which is imitating the other.

A masterpiece! Saura's structure is just brilliant. To be able to tap into the dark history of military regimes prevalent in the Spanish-speaking world is a stroke of genius. The stage design is absolutely dazzling. However, a tango dance drama with this kind of structure can probably only be truly expressed through film; a stage performance would definitely fall short. Also, did the emergence of people from the turn of the century in that final, grand sequence perhaps inspire Angelopoulos's *The Weeping Meadow*?
