Trama
Il Sentiero di Mercatore segue il viaggio di Benjamin, un adolescente che sta lottando per trovare il suo posto nel mondo dopo aver ereditato una misteriosa scatola di antichi artefatti dal padre scomparso. Mentre affronta questa nuova realtà, la vita di Benjamin si intreccia sempre più con quella di Slien, una ragazza a cui sta cercando di avvicinarsi. La decisione di Benjamin di regalare a Slien un libro antico dalla collezione di suo padre dà il via a una reazione a catena di eventi che lo portano in un'avventura emozionante in tutto il mondo. Lungo il cammino, incontra un cast di personaggi tutti legati al passato della sua famiglia, tra cui un cartografo enigmatico e un gruppo di cacciatori di tesori. Man mano che Benjamin approfondisce i segreti che circondano la scomparsa di suo padre, inizia a scoprire una complessa rete di bugie e inganni che minaccia di distruggere tutto ciò che pensava di sapere su se stesso. #Berlinale75_Competition What constitutes good feminist storytelling? Look no further. Rather than seeing it primarily as an exploration of the government's forceful policies, I'm more inclined to view it as a study of the elderly and their living conditions, a focus on those marginalized. Do the elderly need forceful care? Should they be considered vulnerable? Do older people possess agency in film, or are they reduced to symbolic, functional roles? (I feel this could be studied comparatively alongside Disability Studies.)

It powerfully taps into the immense PTSD and anxieties of Chinese audiences. For me, this is the best of the main competition at this year's Berlinale. In a cat-and-mouse game between an individual unwilling to yield and the machinery of the state, it discusses the anxieties of human aging, the governing techniques of the state apparatus, the apathy of intergenerational relationships, the status quo of the underclass, and the inevitable loopholes within the national system. To domestic distributors, please consider this film for import and theatrical release in China. Films like this deserve to be seen by audiences. However, I do feel the climax could have been more brilliantly executed.
