Barefoot Ki-Bong

あらすじ

In a small village nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside, there lives a young man named Ki-bong, who has been shrouded in ridicule and pity by the village people. Ki-bong suffers from a rare condition that occurred when he was just a child, resulting in severe brain damage that has left him with the emotional maturity of an 8-year-old. As a result, his behavior and actions are often unpredictable and childlike, leading the villagers to view him as a non-entity, someone who exists merely to be pitied and tolerated. Despite his fragile emotional state, Ki-bong's love for his mother is a force that drives him forward. His mother, who is frail and in constant need of care, is Ki-bong's entire world. He takes care of her selflessly, begging for food and money to ensure that she is fed and clothed. And it is his love for her that inspires him to take on a new challenge: participating in the National Amateur Half Marathon in the hopes of winning the prize money to buy her artificial teeth, a dream she has long had but has not been able to afford. Ki-bong's greatest skill, as the villagers well know, is his incredible speed and endurance. He can run for hours without tiring, his bare feet pounding the earth as he darts through the countryside. And it is this skill that forms the basis of his decision to enter the half marathon. With the guidance of a devoted trainer, Mr. Baek, Ki-bong sets to work, training tirelessly in the blistering heat of the day and the bitter cold of the night, determined to achieve his goal. Mr. Baek, a kind-hearted and experienced runner, sees in Ki-bong a spark of determination that he believes could propel the young man to greatness. He offers his services as a trainer, and Ki-bong gratefully accepts. Together, they embark on a journey that will take Ki-bong from the confines of his village to the national stage, where he will face off against the world's top runners. As Ki-bong trains, he begins to undergo a transformation. His childlike mannerisms begin to fade, replaced by a newfound sense of focus and purpose. He becomes more disciplined, more driven, and more confident. The villagers, who have grown accustomed to viewing Ki-bong as a mere spectator, begin to see him in a new light. They start to recognize the deep love and dedication that drives him to succeed, and they are inspired by his example. The village, too, undergoes a transformation. As Ki-bong's story spreads, the villagers begin to reflect on their own relationships with their loved ones. They realize that Ki-bong's love for his mother is not all that different from their own love for their own families. They begin to see the value in their own relationships, and the importance of nurturing and caring for one another. The village, which had been a quiet and contented community, is transformed by Ki-bong's efforts. As competition day draws near, Ki-bong's progress is astonishing. He has improved dramatically, his times shrinking as he runs farther and faster. The villagers are in awe of his talent, and they gather to watch him compete in the national half marathon. Ki-bong faces stiff competition, but his sheer determination and love for his mother drive him forward. He runs with a newfound sense of purpose, his feet pounding the earth as he crosses the finish line in a respectable time. The villagers erupt in cheers as Ki-bong is declared a winner. He has won the prize money, and his mother will finally have the artificial teeth she so desperately needs. But more than that, Ki-bong has won the hearts of the villagers. He has inspired them to see the world in a new light, to value their relationships and to care for one another with renewed passion and dedication. Ki-bong's story serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of love and dedication. It shows us that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. And it reminds us that with hard work and determination, even the most unlikely of heroes can achieve greatness.
