ブライトバーン
あらすじ
穏やかなカンザス州ブライトバーン。流星が空を横切り、その破片が田園地帯に散らばる。興奮と好奇心の中、若い夫婦のトランス（デヴィッド・デンマン）とトリー（ジャック・ケシー）は、隕石の中に埋まっている奇妙な光る卵を発見し、並外れた出来事に巻き込まれる。その卵は異星人の胚であることが判明し、トランスは迷うことなくそれを飼うことにする。しかし、彼が知る由もなかったのは、この並外れた訪問者が、町を根底から揺るがす一連の出来事を解き放とうとしていることだった。 夫婦は、ブランドン・ブレイヤーと名付けたその生命体を、実の息子であるジャクソンと共に育てる。ブランドンが成長するにつれて、彼の並外れた力と急速な認知発達は加速し、高校卒業生と同等の知能を持つようになる。ブランドンとジャクソンの間には絆が生まれるが、問題の兆候が現れ始める。ブランドンの行動は不安定で暴力的になり、彼を育てた人間たちに共感することに、不安になるほど無関心を示すようになる。 ブランドンの暴力的な爆発はエスカレートし、彼はますます攻撃的で制御不能になる。彼の養父母は、彼の異常な行動に対処するのに苦労し、彼の異世界の起源が、彼に本質的に不自然なもの、つまり暴力への飽くなき渇望と、人命に対する完全な無視を与えたことに気づく。 ブランドンの巨大な力と破壊的傾向の頂点とみられる出来事で、彼は隣人の一家を情け容赦なく虐殺する。その結果、彼は町の法執行機関に逮捕される。しかし、ブランドンの計り知れない異質な遺産が明らかになると、この並外れた異世界の贈り物を活用しようとする秘密政府機関が関与する国際的な陰謀のため、彼の運命は解決されないままとなる。 この秘密の政府組織は、ブランドンが持つ力に魅了された者や、この並外れた力を潜在的な破壊的な戦争に応用したいと願う者など、さまざまな動機を持っている。政府は公式にブランドンを管理下に置き、彼を分析し操るための研究施設に移送する。 日々が過ぎるにつれて、ブランドンはこの高度に要塞化された施設での封じ込めに適応し、回避する。徐々に、彼の力は新たな高みに達し、成長する大衆の魅力を集める。彼らは、ブランドンが利用することで、監禁からの逃避に勢いを増す、強力で大胆不敵な存在に魅了される。 この出来事は、彼を研究し服従させようとする複数の試みが繰り返し壊滅的な結果に終わるため、国中に広範囲にわたる恐怖をもたらしている。その結果、世界はもう一つの問いを自問する。かつては愛情深く無邪気だった子供が、今や強大で容赦のない破壊力に変貌した今、止めることができるのだろうか、それとも救うことができるのだろうか？ 彼の並外れた力をスリリングに示す中で、ブランドンは大胆不敵な力としての彼の認識された地位を妨害する者を排除するために、圧倒的な力を使用して、手錠による扱いから解放される。その後、ブランドンは、数々の神話的なモンスターを彷彿とさせる規模の破壊と恐怖を国の最大の都市で解き放ち、都市や混乱した国々に彼の無限の破壊を解き放つにつれて、「ブライトバーン」はヒーローではなく怪物だったという集団的認識以外に選択肢はないように思われる。

The tagline "What if Superman wasn't raised right and turned evil?" is misleading. The evil in this movie is inherent, with no nurture explanation. The foster parents and the female classmate are not to blame. Most of the scares are predictable, but my tolerance for gore and jump scares remains at zero. I had to close my eyes.

It's essentially an evil kid horror flick with some pretty gory scenes. You'll get more enjoyment out of it if you approach it as a "dark version of Superman." There are a lot of nods to that concept in the details, including the red cape, the superpowers, and especially the heat vision incinerating heads. The ending is interesting; it seems to hint at a crazy witch with a lasso and some sea creatures? Pretty twisted. I'm definitely looking forward to Lex Luthor, as a figure of justice, saving the planet.

Sequels are on the horizon: An orphaned, reclusive rich kid raised by bats, a depraved high school student spewing webs while living as a foster child, a sickly boy with uncontrollable rage turning into green-skinned monster, and a woman from a lesbian family obsessed with BDSM, spiraling into sex addiction.

Accidentally ended up watching Brightburn instead of Avengers because the ticket guy messed up. Spent the first half thinking the kid was a superhero, and the second half convinced he was just a supervillain. Currently trying to calm down my girlfriend...

So he chose the latter, gradually transforming from an ordinary child into a great demon. Surely he is guilty, but it's also the collective outcome of everyone's actions. He wasn't born a demon child; people made him one step by step...
