あらすじ

Falls in the same genre, but "Plane" doesn't even hold a candle to "Sully" from a few years back. "Sully" smashes it to smithereens.

2 and a half stars. Loosely based on the 2002 Überlingen mid-air collision and inspired by the true story of Russian national Vitaly Kaloyev, with Schwarzenegger portraying this "Avenger." Recent years have seen a number of air disaster films; "Sully" from last year being a prime example. However, in contrast to Sully's heroism, this movie clearly carries a heavier tone of tragedy. Unfortunately, the latter half of the film is poorly handled, with both instances of revenge rushed and unconvincing. The ending also feels bland and anticlimactic.

After looking into the real events, it seems a small probability of human error led to a major tragedy. I'm just curious about the general attitude of airlines in handling air crashes and whether there are companies specializing in air crash compensation negotiations. Do airlines set a compensation baseline, and then these companies investigate passenger backgrounds to formulate a plan? Ultimately, is it true that the smaller the final compensation amount, the more profit the negotiation company makes, leading to a long-standing sense of cruelty in the aftermath of air disasters?

I don't think it's fair to compare this to "Sully" because they have different focuses. This film's scope feels much smaller, limited to personal emotions rather than rising to a societal level. The excessive emphasis on sorrow is a drawback. It had the potential to be a tearjerker, but it leans a bit too much into thriller territory.

Not bad acting from Arnold in the drama scenes, but ultimately, he still killed the wrong person. At its core, it's a problem of the flight company's management and safety systems, yet the navigator bears the brunt of the responsibility. When he's released early for mental instability and faces the navigator's son, there's no right or wrong resolution. When an individual confronts a tragedy caused by a large group, they're powerless and face utter injustice. This is why the actual avenger, after enduring the bureaucratic runaround and killing people, receives a hero's welcome in Russia.
