Sort of like a Spanish Carrie.

Absolutely brilliant... This is the kind of blend of horror and feminism I've been craving! Words become flesh; belief dictates reality, but what about those caught in the ambiguity of doubt? The father's science versus the mother's faith – which holds the key to true love and redemption? Whether hell or heaven exists is irrelevant; only death remains as the ultimate truth.

In the space between reality and fiction lies a sliver, a glimmer of something extraordinary, if only it can be captured. There are too many loose ends in the storyline, and they're not tied up in the end, which is a waste of the significant effort put in at the beginning. A susceptible person, family bereavement, strict discipline, a religious family... numerous elements make possession possible, but it all falls apart later, with science or religion, or the father's trauma from losing a son... The special effects are truly outstanding, as is the atmospheric creation, a testament to the fine tradition of Spanish horror films. However, the second half is a major letdown, devolving into a formulaic and simplistic exorcism display... Three stars.

The police have taken away the shamans, and the poor child, unable to bear the torment, jumped from the building. It's all about breaking superstition and believing in science, a religious anti-drug blockbuster directed by devout parents in the name of the Holy Son and the Holy Spirit. If God can exorcise demons and absolve sins, does humanity still need medicine?
