9-5

Plot
In the 1980 American film 9 to 5, written by Patricia Resnick and directed by Colin Higgins, the protagonist Dolly Parton, played by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton take on the roles of Judy Bernly, Violet Newstead, and Doralee Rhodes, respectively. These three women, all working in various roles, are at the receiving end of the tyranny and abuse inflicted by the male-dominated workplace led by their chauvinist boss, Franklin Hart Jr. Judy Bernly, played by Jane Fonda, is a newly divorced middle-aged woman struggling to cope with her separation from her marriage and the emotional trauma that ensues from it. She takes up a job as a secretary at a big corporation in the hopes of starting anew, away from the painful memories of her past. However, she soon realizes that she is underappreciated, overworked, and mistreated by her boss. Violet Newstead, played by Lily Tomlin, is a highly qualified accountant with a keen sense of humor and wit. Despite her impressive qualifications, she is underappreciated and undervalued in her position at the office. Her talent is often overlooked in favor of the more incompetent but male colleagues, which leads to frustration and resentment. Doralee Rhodes, played by Dolly Parton, is the loveliest and most vivacious secretary working in the office. Her charm and beauty have won over the affection of many male colleagues, including her boss, Franklin Hart Jr. Despite being the object of everyone's admiration and flirtations, Doralee finds herself at the receiving end of harassment and is belittled by her colleagues. All three women face the difficulties of living life as women in a predominantly male-dominated workplace, struggling to balance their work-life, fighting for respect and recognition at the workplace. The character of Franklin Hart Jr, played by Dabney Coleman, serves as the central figure of oppression in their workplace. He personifies patriarchal norms through his condescending behavior towards his female colleagues, his lack of consideration for their feelings and perspectives, and his propensity to exploit their femininity. The movie follows the journey of these three women as they navigate the complexities of their personal and professional lives. Judy, Violet, and Doralee form a bond with each other as they develop strategies to counter Hart's tyranny, finding a way to break free from their suffocating work environment. They concoct a plan to get rid of Franklin Hart Jr. at the end of the story.
