Plot

Aashiqui 2 is a 2013 Indian romantic drama film directed by Mohit Suri, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. Set in a small town, the film revolves around the story of two young individuals, Aashiqui and Ragini, whose lives are intertwined through music and love. The film centers around Jagajeet 'Jagga' Khan (played by Aditya Roy Kapur), a former rockstar who was part of a popular band in the 1990s. Jagga's music was adored by everyone, but a tragic accident and a serious injury led him to give up on music. Years later, Jagga has turned into a teacher, working with young children, inspiring them to follow their dreams of becoming musicians. Ragini 'Gogi' Nair (played by Shraddha Kapoor) is a rich and beautiful girl who comes to the small town with her family to attend her cousin's wedding. Feeling suffocated by her luxurious and materialistic lifestyle, Ragini wants to pursue music, unlike her family's expectations. When she meets Jagga, who has written several songs while hiding his talent, Ragini discovers her own passion for music. Encouraged by Jagga, Ragini starts to take singing lessons from him, and soon, her talent is discovered by a renowned music producer, Sajal. Sajal (played by Ankit Sharma) is the son of a famous music producer, and he recognizes Ragini's immense potential. He decides to launch Ragini's singing career, which quickly gains momentum. People praise Ragini's unique voice, and her songs start to top the charts. Ragini and Jagga grow close as they work together, and their bond turns into a romantic relationship. Despite being from different backgrounds, they fall in love, and their relationship is pure and true. However, when Ragini's singing career takes off, people begin to speculate that Jagga has only attached himself to Ragini for her fame and fortune. Touched by the accusations, Jagga's past insecurities and emotions are triggered, and he starts to question his own intentions. He feels betrayed and guilty, thinking that people will view him as a gold-digger, no better than those who had betrayed him in his earlier days as an artist. As a result, Jagga starts pulling away from Ragini, emotionally distancing himself, while Ragini is oblivious to his feelings. She believes that Jagga is just stressed due to her increasing fame, but she has no idea what is eating away at his heart. Meanwhile, Jagga's jealous friends back in the music industry confess their former disdain for him after learning about his relationship with Ragini, making Jagga realize that people can never see beyond his looks and past reputation. Feeling heartbroken, trapped, and confused about his actions, Jagga begins to neglect Ragini and eventually abandons her. This devastating loss leaves Ragini shattered as she realizes the value of their relationship and the loss of the man she loved. Despite her fading popularity, Ragini eventually gets her sense of purpose back and begins to sing with a fire that Jagga had once instilled in her. In the climax, Ragini and Jagga meet again in Mussoorie, when a rain-drenched Ragini arrives at Jagga's doorstep on his 28th birthday, only to be met with an intense emotional reaction from Jagga. As they finally open up to each other, they realize that true love cannot be crushed by external society pressures. The once music-filled street offers an ethereal love, set in motion by an authentic bond between Jagga and Ragini, that serves as a reassertion and poignant restoration of faith in each other.
