Abduct is a psychological thriller film released in 2016. The movie revolves around a woman named Sophie, who is indulging in a peaceful getaway to the mountains. Sophie seems to be an intelligent and level-headed individual, but beneath the surface, she is grappling with past traumas that have left her emotionally vulnerable. Sophie brings her boyfriend, Phil, to the cottage, hoping to reconnect with him and work on their relationship. However, their attempts at reconnecting are hindered when Phil suddenly disappears without warning. Sophie is left alone in the isolated cottage, with no cell phone signal and no information regarding Phil's whereabouts. Her anxiety levels begin to peak as she frantically searches the surrounding areas and inquires about her boyfriend's disappearance at the local townspeople. As Sophie is struggling to cope with the disappearance of her boyfriend, a random naked man shows up at the cottage, claiming to be Phil. Her journey of investigations into Phil's disappearance puts her at odds with her initial perception of his character and the couple's relationship. Alongside doubts about her memories of the past few days. She is uncertain about her ability to discern the truth. The movie also portrays the darker facets of Phil's character, creating an air of uncertainty surrounding the character's identity. This eerie atmosphere captures Sophie's anxiety-fueled thoughts and delves into the fractured relationship she shares with Phil. The twists in the plot continually blur the lines between reality and her fragile perception of it. As the suspense builds up, Sophie realises there is nothing more destructive for her than delusion, and the only way to make sense of her situation is by questioning the foundations of her personal reality, i.e., the man she loves, her past experiences. From her desperation arise various answers as Sophie finally comes to terms with what's going on. The final scenes of Abduct illustrate Sophie's complete and utter loss of control amid her unfolding panic, her acceptance and self-discovery. They express her new-found knowledge that suggests the line between reality and illusion can only be drawn through a self-driven understanding.
