Allegiant

Plot
In the dystopian society of the Divergent series, the people of Chicago live divided into five factions, each representing a different virtue: Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (peacefulness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), and Erudite (intelligence). Tris Prior, a young woman from Abnegation who undergoes the Divergent test, finds out she is Dauntless-born, meaning she has traits of multiple factions, including Dauntless. This revelation sets her on a path of self-discovery and rebellion against the oppressive society. Allegiant picks up where Insurgent left off, with Tris (Shailene Woodley) and her love interest, Tobias (Theo James), escaping the ruins of Chicago and stumbling upon a hidden city beyond the city walls. They find themselves in a desolate landscape that seems barren and eerie, with no signs of civilization. It is here that they come across a mysterious group that claims to have been working on a better future for the divergent population. As they navigate this uncharted world, Tris and Tobias are taken in by the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, a seemingly benevolent agency that promises to protect them and provide them with answers about the world outside the fence. However, as they delve deeper into the Bureau's operations, they begin to unravel a sinister plot that threatens the very existence of humanity. The Bureau's intentions are initially unclear, but as Tris and Tobias begin to learn more, they start to realize that the agency's goals are anything but altruistic. The Bureau has been experimenting on the divergent population, using them to further its own agenda. The agency's true purpose is to preserve the gene pool of the divergent population by keeping them in a controlled environment. Tris and Tobias soon learn that the Bureau has been conducting a twisted form of genetic research, aimed at eradicating the divergent gene. The agency believes that humans are genetically prone to destructive behavior and that the divergent population poses a threat to global stability. In their twisted logic, the Bureau seeks to "save" humanity by eliminating the divergent gene, deeming it a genetic anomaly. As Tris becomes more and more involved with the Bureau, she starts to lose trust in Tobias, who is beginning to succumb to the agency's manipulation. The agency's tactics include using fear, propaganda, and manipulation to control the mind and actions of the divergent individuals. Tris finds herself torn between her love for Tobias and her growing unease with the Bureau's agenda. Throughout the movie, Tris's own identity comes to the forefront as she grapples with her dual selves – Abnegation and Dauntless-born. Her journey becomes an inner struggle as she tries to reconcile her conflicting personas. The Bureau's experiments on the divergent population serve as a metaphor for the external pressures Tris faces, as she tries to maintain her sense of self within the oppressive environment. The movie culminates in a thrilling plot twist, as Tris discovers a dark secret about her family's past and the origins of the Divergent series. The revelation that her mother, Natalie, was involved in a rebellion against the government and was subsequently silenced raises questions about the world's true history and the role of the factions. The climax of the movie leaves the audience with a glimpse of a new reality, where the truth behind the Divergent series becomes shrouded in mystery. Allegiant sets the stage for the final installment, Ascendant, as Tris and Tobias's journey continues into the unknown. The movie's conclusion, while emotionally taxing, paves the way for the climactic showdown between Tris and the forces of oppression.

Why! The first three movies were so good! I've been waiting for the finale, and then they pull this!

I watched the first two installments and was really looking forward to this one. Perhaps 'Allegiant' underperformed at the box office because it's a film about a minority group.

While seeing Naomi Watts play the villain is enjoyable, your sights are set on an Oscar, right?

Unexpectedly, it's been downgraded to a TV series… Feels like the original cast probably won't be returning.
