Ant-Man and the Wasp
Plot
In the aftermath of the events of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has been spending his days under house arrest, a consequence of violating his probation by participating in the Battle of Sokovia. Despite the confined circumstances, Lang continues to live life to the fullest, bonding with his young daughter, Cassie, who remains a significant source of strength for him. However, Lang's chance at a fresh start becomes complicated when he receives a visit from his fellow Avenger and friend, Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who brings news of a mysterious situation. The original Ant-Man, Dr. Hank Pym's wife, Janet van Dyne, has been trapped in the quantum realm since the 1980s, an area of space-time with such a high density of matter and energy that it's inaccessible to the human mind. Despite the risks, Pym has devised a plan to rescue her, hoping to use the quantum realm to learn more about its uncharted territories. Complications arise when they find out their window to rescue Janet is shrinking exponentially. Lang joins the mission, accompanied by Hope, Pym, and Hank's daughter, Hope's mother, who took his wife's place in the original quantum suit while she was trapped within the quantum realm, though no mention of this in the movie. Dubbing the new generation of Ant-Man, Hope assumes the role of the Wasp. Their perilous rescue mission is soon complicated when they discover that the rescue will not be a straightforward extraction, but also need to retrieve a high-tech device that Janet has left behind to communicate to the outside - both those she was closest to and those at the outside of the realm, though ultimately, the said communication wasn't anticipated, there are more entrap aspects coming in, and they will never guess the true depth and full extent of it. Meanwhile, a villainous force emerges from the shadows: Ghost, a mysterious figure portrayed by Hannah John-Kamen, whose past as a patient nicknamed 'Cassie Aljerie Lang', suffering of a brain tumor, resonates eerily with Cassie's current condition. Ghost now appears to be not just a simple adversary but a girl who, struggling like Cassie, has had a tumour like hers, cured by Hank's, now Dr Harrison an emerging Pym-tech expert. Though the real cause might differ from Ghost's, Cassie reveals the true motivation behind why she even helped out as much as the very last pieces and has put at first her life on the way. Additional themes arise from the relationships between the characters. As Lang faces difficulties and navigates the moral aspects of risk-taking, he reiterates the impact that personal connections have on our actions and motivations. As they delve deeper into the quantum realm, Lang reconnects with his will to confront his past and balance between working closely with his heroic family, alongside pushing further alongside hope in his quest to push his vision that this may help bring him closer to a life with Cassie which he can share not only as a prisoner of his heroic past but as an actual time with live on with those who truly like he really loves. As time becomes of the essence, Lang, Hope, and Pym embark on a hair-raising adventure amidst increasingly treacherous landscapes, propelling the audience through every turn. At one point or another, the quantum realm can be a very hazardous and they may not make out the results unscathed. The journey for Lang unravels what essentially serves as redemption - the opportunity to balance heroic actions, personal involvement, and love as he fights to give his daughter a better, fulfilling future and to find a bridge to that future, all in time.
